brushless duct fan

Default brushless duct fan

I am trying to build a vtol with 2 brushless ducted fans. I need help to try to find ones that would be powerful enough. My weight is about 380 grams.

I have recently worked on just that !! A Vtol Ducted fan feasability project.
I had to achieve 150Grms + for 5A current draw (4 Fans in this unit)
On the low budget I was given The GWS 64 Worked Best, I achieved 180grms for 5.4A using a Go Brushless 22.5mm Outrunner can and stator, 12off 5*5*1 Magnets wound with 12 Turns (Star).
The all up weight of the fan and motor is 50 grms (Lighter than the recommended motor only at 70 GRms!!)
Weight is going to be your problem !! Stick with a simple out runner system on a larger fan.

good luck on the vtol with edfs.

tough ask. i sponsored a final year thesis group of engineers that tried an f35 and osprey. both required 6 degrees of freedom unertial moment unit and a microcontroller card to enable tuning and calibration of the reactions- this was done via a feedback loop to a pc whilst the craft was on a gimbal.

we abandoned ducts as the losses were extreme around any form of deflection (50%+) so had to use naked fans...EDF didnt have the power to weight either..we spent alot of time testing and working on ic ducted fans from 0.15 through to 0.27 sizes and nitro content, tuned pipes etc.

the best result was twin dynamax fans and .90 os engines with tunes pipes... that was abandoned too due to fumes and noise however.

the issue for ducts is that its not a pressure system so any diversion or restriction of flow is a real problem- as is control lag.

turbine is the only feasible option right now...or very short run times with edf.
