4 weeks? I usually get my stuff in like 4-5 days! Are they outta stock? There is no need to beef up the motor mounting area. Only issue is access to mount the motor whilst securing the ESC! Okay ... this is how you can do it:

i. attach the servos etc then close the turtle deck, attach ESC to motor and motor to the motor mount, glue on the motor mount (I use a few layers of double sided tape so I can remove it again, being a pusher there is no issue). In this case your ESC will be flipping around.

ii. attach the servos, cut the turtle deck just aft of the ventilation hole and then close the back portion and attach the motor mount. Now you have full access to the wiring etc. You can hold the ESC down.

Anyone have a better idea? I would like to know how to do it without having to cut the turtle deck. Thanks!

slicktop,

I have not been on this thread for 10 days and just read your post. I thought you might like that mini tutorial/crash course lesson to help you make decisions and to help you fly the fastest.

Not exactly sure of what you meant in your post.....either way, I hope you found my post useful, or at least it shed some light on a few things.

The info in there, ranges from beginner to advance level…shouldn’t think that it was all common knowledge material.

Later,

Gryphon

Now I hope this isn't going to be seen as blasphemy. ;-)

So here goes. I have seen a funjet flying indoors is a gym on youtube. Look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt1GcEAqbCw

If I was a sick individual and wanted to do this, what weight is the funjet without an engine?

Just trying to work out what size engine and prop I would need for 3D flying more than speed.

Cheers

Hi Gryphon

Just building mine with Medusa V2.
Got APC 5.5x4.5 and also Graupner cam prop 5.5x4.3
Going 4S an think the APC is the best bet after I read all around here.
Esc is 40A.
Futaba 3153 digital's.
I hope I'll have some fun![8D]

pani, sounds like you are going after an efficient setup. Sweet.

What are the full specs and what is your speed goal?

Motor specs,
Battery size and "C" rating
ESC burst limit
Is the ESC's internal BEC capable(switching type) of handling 4S or do you need to disable it and run a Universal BEC?
2.4 GHz?

Have lots of fun,

Gryphon

Well things are going well in the fun jet world. I am trying out a new motor one of the cheap one from Hobby City Trunigy 2847. Put 2 flights on it today worked very well. Everything temp. wise in line. Speed was really good as it's more powerful then the high speed out runner exp. motor I had on it.
I just love the Fj as it's the smoothest plane I have in the hanger.

Hi Gryphon
I got the MR-028-040-2500v2 motor
I use an AR6100 spektrum receiver with X9303 guidance
Turnigy 40 Amp Esc which says it can handle up to 6S on the BEC
Two small E-sky servo's with maximum mechanical advantage ie pushrod in last hole inboards (think I have to upgrade to some Hitec HS 56's or even better 65MG's), the Futaba's are a bit too big
3S and 4S 2200mAh 25C batts from hobbycity
Maidened the combo last Sunday.
Speed does not look much different from 3s to 4s but the fj seems to roll left when given full throttle with 4s. With 3s this does not happen. It felt like around 70 mph with the 4s, way down of what I expected
AUW with the 3s is 610gr and plus 55 gr for the 4S
All in all a good flyer.
Now I need to paint it and test the Graupner prop.
First flights were with the 5.5x4.5

Hello all, I'm on the verge of purchasing a FJ, was doing some research, and low and behold, all the same people I talk to about the Stryker are here too! My LHS is selling the FJ for 69.00, this seems overpriced for foam, compared to the 17.00 stryker body. How much are you guys having to deal with? (I'm in Hawaii, so things are pricier.)

Hi Guys, i bought a FJ from my local hobby shop that went out of business, for $50..I haven't put it together yet, but am going to do so soon.. I talked to the Tech at Medusa Research and he said to use the 28-40-2500 V2 on the FJ, so i ordered it today, and was wondering if any of you guys have flown this motor, and if so, what prop seemed to be best for it.. I plan on usuing a 2200mah 20c 3s battery and i have a 40 ESC.
I have a kyosho Mirage, and twin EDF F-22 Raptor, and they are cool to fly, but i just want something a little faster, for my adrenalin days (gettin old, need heart rate to go up now and then-LOL) ...I could never satisfy my need for speed, until one day i put a NELSON Q-40 on a diamond dust. WOW!! talk about fast!! everyone who saw it fly, said it was the fastest thing they ever saw fly! That was when i was younger, so now i just want to go around 100mph or so...Any info would be greatly appreciated...Paul

Here's the latest FunJet.........

Just a note.... It's twin has been radared at 97 mph on a 3 cell running ........APC 5.5x4.5......... Micro Dan 2800kv out runner.
On a 4 cell it ripped out the control horn hole and crashed.
Plane wgt. is 21 oz with 3 cell 2500 battery.

Look at the difference from mine vs. the one on this page ( 3) pic. Very little canopy. No middle deck. No wing tip additions. You can remove the "spoiler" in front of the motor, which I do when running a in runner. All motors are secured with plastic wire zip ties.

It sure will because I have tried to fit in an outrunner of that diameter before. Only issue is you will be pretty tail heavy, to balance that out you will need a bigger pack and soon your AUW is nuts. So depends what you want with her. Wanna be a PowerNut or do you wanna just to enjoy her with good speed?

kremechez

I would suggest you go with a 28-47 ish size. motor. Why on a longer motor you can run more volts.....more volts = more power and speed. One of the best Mega Motor 16-25-2
It's a 2650 kv.....low resistance ( runs cool = more eff. power to the prop ) can and has run up to 6 cells. 4-5 is the sweet spot.
Price runs 105.00 range us.

Smile on your face priceless.

CP

I can post exact prop suggestions later.
Examples : APC 6x4- 5.5x4.5 6x5.5 5.5x5.5 ( 6x5.5 cut down)

Running these high rpms 28 k plus you must balance EVERY prop
Also you can use APC pylon props

I'm running/exp with HET 29-45 2700kv 20 buck motor from Hobby City. I removed the built on fins to make it lighter. I can add snap on heat sink fins if needed. So far it's running OK.
