Hi all,

The video is post #202 does not work on my friend's computer. A blank window says downloading and it will stay blank with same message way down below for 15+ Minutes.

I tried it several times. Computer is new and has worked perfect with all other videos.

Does anyone else have issues viewing that video?

Thanks,

Gryphon

Regarding your other friend in the picture that you were attacking; I'm sure he had it coming.......LOL....

Gryphon ... I shall send you my postal address by PM, hahahahaa ... for the FJ I am only waiting for CF strips to install into her wings. The feel kinda flimsy without the CF strips.I don't want to cut up the turtle deck so I shall maintain the motor but maybe go with the APC 6x5.5 and trim it down to a 5 x 5.5 or something, I will try that to squeeze a little speed out of her since I am only pulling about 40A. At present my speed is about 85-90 mph tops. Feels kinda slow actually. If I am up to it then I may try a 6S set up with the APC 4.7x4.2, that will really scream!

Also, 2 other guys at the field want me to up grade their FJs as they find theirs kinda slow. So far 2 contenders have lost to me due to their failure to match the power set up properly.

Can someone help me out with a good motor prop setup? I'm not looking for anything too extreme and will be running my 3s 2170 Flightpower packs.

Sun just get any 28mm motor of about 3,000 KV and a 5x5 prop, she flies ok on a 2,700 KV one too, 3,000 KV is more fun but not taxing on your batts. A 35A-40A ESC is enough ... a HET 2W-20 is nice on 4.75x4.75, I ran on that with the FP EVO25 3S 1,800 and EVOLITE 3S 2,100.

Been a while since I dropped by the FJ thread but I'm back to say hello. My FJ is hung up but my good friend Murray made some cool mods to his and we took it for a spin. Made us laugh a lot....which can't be a bad thing

I am building some FJ for the guys at the field, they all wanna go fast but only am willing to stick with 3S. I am using the HobbyCity motor of 28mm and 3,000 KV but yesterday when I ran one with a 4.75x4.75 the 35A ESC overheated, need to take some readings today. Shall give you guys some data by tonight ...

UPDATE

I came back from the flying field and the motor was pulling a ridiculous amount of amps. Its a HobbyCity motor called KB28-47-13S 3000 KV. With an APC 4.7 x 4.2 the watt meter was reading 48A! Its the same dimensions and KV as my MEGA 16/15/3 but the Mega was only pulling around 35A on a 4.75x4.75. Hmmmm ...

tIANci,

You know when comparing a couple of similar size and KV motors that the MEGA motor would probably have lower resistance than a hobbycity motor. {lower resistance =more power, run cooler, suck more amps}

Also:

When comparing a couple of similar motors as far as quality, KV, the one that is bigger will generally have good deal lower resistance.

______________________________________

Your KB motor is a 47 length, but the MEGA 16/15/3 is only a 36.4 length, so they are not the same size, only same diameter. Should have 0.4” length difference.

480 sized KB against 400 sized MEGA.

MEGA is 76 grams, while the Longer KB is 149grams, but your finned version is 190 grams, let’s over look the weight of the fin for a minute and compare it to the weight of KB 28-47-15S 2600KV version of KB (a guy just put on one a Stryker).
KB is double the weight of MEGA without the KB fin.

Web sites show the MEGA to have resistance of 0.0270 and longer KB to be 0.0248

Not much of a resistance difference but I would expect the bigger motor with lower resistance to draw more amps given same prop…ideally it goes to more RPM with same prop.

The amount of difference in amps does surprise me…..the above only sheds light on part of the reason.

All I can say is wow. Depending on RPM difference on same prop, maybe the extra power is going to waste, or maybe it is partly getting to the prop….do a comparison test with same prop and battery and wattmeter, and tach.

I am impressed enough to put the KB on a list of recommended motors for lower budget, if they want a shorter version...they are on their own...if DARK SIDE name goes on it, it need to handle AMPS.

In Motocalc, I just found it under KEDA KB 28-47-13S there are dozens of these KEDA motos listed….sweet. It had same parameter values as hobbycity site.

I can’t wait to get back some data on the KB 28-47-15S 2600KV, the guy said it ran warm but flew the Stryker at 85+MPH. Due to some prior damage he could not get the bird to fly straight anymore, so he is building a new fuse. Maiden was supposed to be today…I hope to hear something in a few days using different type of Amp meter, and a house hold voltmeter. I think I got him to prop with 6X5.5 on a 3S pack. I’ll let you know when I get data…..Ah yeah, no heat sink yet, but soon I hope.

On Sunday I dorked my FJ, I launched her badly, decided to run a little and threw her at a 45* angle ... sigh. Not too much damage but after a few botched up launches by friends I wanna build No. 4. I think I will stick to 3S this time. Just 3S with my Mega 16/15/3. But again, 4S is good fun too. Decisions, decisions, decision ... I will probably do a MIG15 style colour scheme, red top with a white belly and white Commie stars!
