I work in one of the local hobby shops and we got 4 of them in yesterday. They look nice. I assembled one to look at. Found the magnets holding the canopy on had come out of the foam where they were glued, also they gave me 2 of the same sides of the stand and they won't fit together that way. So I'll have to order the other side of the stand but no big deal at least I can build it still. I checked the other 3 for these problems and all was good. I'll pick one up Monday. Hopefully someone will get a flight report up here soon. Later Jon

Mine is sitting on the floor in front of me! The LHS did not have the recommended Futaba S3114 servos. Actually, he thought they may have been discontinued. When i find a servo that fits, I'll let you know.

The plane is very nice.

The S3114 servo is a newer servo. It hasn't been discontinued. Greatplanes shows them in stock.
I just about have my L-39 done now. I picked it up today. I forgot to get 2, 6" extensions so that is all I need to finish it. I weighted it complete (less the 2 extensions), it is 16.8 oz, with a Thunderpower 1320mah 3 cell batt. Looks pretty nice. Hopefully I can fly it this weekend. Later Jon

Mine is still in transit. The first mod I would like to do is paint the canopy black.

Got mine the other day. First impressions:
- packed very well
- light and well painted. (some irregularities in the paint job around the edges of the canopy)
- magnets used throughout jet are strong (canopy, rear hatch, missles and fuel tanks)
- high quality construction.

Questions:
-manual says to use foam safe ca, but the video on the tower site says that regular ca can be used on this new foam?

BTW, the blue canopy is growing on me. Looks nice.

Have you flown yours yet Jon Wise?

If it is anything like the synapse you must make sure canopy is secured. I lost mine in flight 2 x's on the synapse. Also the fan unit could use balancing. Mine vibrated so bad I thought it was going to come out. The paint chips and cracks off easily. If you tape anything down it will come off. The paint will stay on the tape. Foam safe CA is not good to use on the synapse...not sure how it works on this one. I used 30 minute epoxy with great results. The B-8 servo's that come in the rxr are junk IMO. The both stripped on first 3 flights. No crash! Just pulling straight up from level flight stripped them.

These are the things i observed from my synapse....not the L-39. I am assuming they are made from the same material.

No, Haven't flown it yet. We just got 6" of snow yesterday. Was hopeing to fly some time in the next couple weeks.
I used 30 minute epoxy to assemble the plane. I also used the S3114 futaba servos on mine. Finished weight was 17.2 ozs. with TP 1320 mah 3 cell li-po. I have run the motor some and didn't notice any vibration to speak of. Mine seems fine. Later Jon

I am interested in getting one of these jets. I have four left over servos from a venom air corps night ranger II (boy what a piece of junk) and I am wondering if they could be used for the L-39. Towers website states that it has 17 oz of torque with a weight of .3175oz.

I ended up with S3156 MG's for the wings and a HS-65 for the elevator. I'll let you know how it goes.

Flew mine this weekend...got three flights in yesterday with the wind gusting to 20mph. What a gas! First launch was hairy[X(]...plane rolled 100 degrees to the right but I was able to get it level before impact and gently pulled up and into the pattern. I strongly suggest high rates on launch...The plane penetrated the wind well and the downwind pass was...zippy! The ground surrounding our asphalt runways is rough so I wanted to land on the runways. I reinforced the servo arm covers with glass on the inside and epoxied about 1/4" square aluminum skids on the those covers, under the nose and under the tail. It lands great but the tip tanks can pop off unless it is greased in. I got probably 10 minutes on TP 1320 3 cell lipos but I did spend some of that time "hovering" in the wind. It loops from level flight but looses speed at the top so a slight dive will make them more symmetrical. Even stock-out-of-the-box, for a hundred bucks you're going to like this plane!

Hello all stations... I've had te L-39 for about three weeks now. She's just been sitting in her stand anxiously waiting to maiden... Sorry to say, but due to my limited expierence as an RC pilot, I've been holding off, and waiting for this forum to spool up. I'm hoping for one of you veteran pilots to post... Good luck to all who will fly her... I think we can all be in agreement, that it's a great looking plane..?

How are you gonna get any experience by sitting in the stand? Just throw it into the wind and fly. Its easy.

Just did my first maiden flight with three additional flights!

First batt was a 1800 PZ LiPo (15C) the following three were done with a Loong Max 2250 25C. The plane is fast and enjoyable. The leading edges get eaten up pretty bad by thick grass, so I put a layer of scotch tape on them. Verticals are poor, but I am using a heavy battery. This also puts my CG just at the forward limit. You have to keep it pretty fast (80% or more) to get good maneuvers out of it.

Overall a good buy! Looks sweet too!

Is everyone putting the EDF in the stock location? I am considering moving my fan back at least an inch to move the CG back. Would this be OK?

Anyone running a 24-45-3790 motor? If so, what is your setup?

If anyone knows how to set one of these up, any input would be appreciated. What size ESC? Separate BEC?

I've got one coming in on Monday and considered the motor your talking about. My only issue is that I don't have and 4 cell lipo's and don't really want to buy any right now. Take it with a grain of salt, but I found a chart that listed what GP says that they got for performance shows some awesome numbers with a 4 cell with the motor you picked.

# LiPo Voltage Current Power Static RPM Efflux Speed Efflux Speed
Cells Thrust meters/sec miles/hour
3 11.1V 10.3A 114W 240g (8.5oz) 29,000 32.40 72.48
4* 14.4V 16.0A 230W 408g (14.4oz) 37,500 39.98 89.44~

Optional Brushless Motor 20-40-3500
2 7.4V 8.7A 64W 215g (7.6oz) 27,000 30.88 69.08
3 11.1V 15.7A 174W 389g (13.7oz) 35,800 38.81 86.82
4* 14.8V 22.3A 330W 564g (19.9oz) 43,000 48.44 108.36~

Optional Brushless Motor 20-40-4040
2 7.4V 12.0A 89W 245g (8.7oz) 28,500 32.75 73.45

Optional Brushless Motor 24-33-4875
2 7.4V 17.2A 127W 303g (10.7oz) 32,300 40.91~ 91.50~
3* 11.1V 32.0A 355W 548g (19.3oz) 42,100 73.98~ 165.49~

Optional Brushless Motor 24-45-3790
2 7.4V 9.7A 72W 207g (7.3oz) 27,120 27.95 62.51
3 11.1V 19.9A 221W 450g (15.9oz) 38,600 60.75 135.89~
4 14.8V 32.6A 482W 721g (25.4oz) 48,000 97.34 217.73~

* Burst Use Only ~Calculated Values

based on the info they're showing if you want 4 cell you'll probably want at least a 35-40 amp esc. Whether you need a bec or not depends on the esc that you decide to use. I'm gonna use an eflite 40amp pro so I won't need to add a bec, and I'm thinkin about doin a 24-33-4875 motor since I've already got a ready supply of 3 cell 2100's
