Default EDF 540 motor question

I have an EDF unit now that will hold a 540 size motor. What I am wondering is if a brushed motor can work with an EDF? I see mostly brushless but was wanting to play around a little. Are brushed motors just not strong enough?
Thanks
B

Brushed mtrs work fine. If, they are capable of turning the fan at a efficient RPM. The smaller the fan the higher the Kv needed to produce thrust.
What fan unit do you have?
