Yes I did
4 poles
direct drive
930KV
Was there something I missed? I am not to savvy with numbers. More visual.

I sent a private message to you. Please check it!.

JOZSEF 12-22-2016 09:40 AM

gman4reel- Thanks for your.csv file, all parameters are good.

I am going to check my set up of this EDF fan. Now,I don’t know why there is such a different static thrust between two same fans.
If anybody has a good advice, please let me know. Thanks.

gman4reel 12-22-2016 10:18 AM

The fan itself is pretty good. Capable of well over 16+ lbs. From what I've discovered is that the motor and batteries play a pivotal role in achieving maximum output. I have that same HobbyKing in runner motor and tested it and found its performance very poor. It quickly overheated and it lacked the high thrust figures I was looking for.

gman4reel 12-22-2016 12:26 PM

The Leopard Motor 4092 930Kv motor cost me about $32.00 usd w/free ship. I wanted an efficient "LOW COST" system. Refused to shell out my hard earn bucks for 'those other expensive motors". Manage to get away with a motor fan combo both less than $75 bucks. I've seen similar combos costing a minimum of $200 plus and only producing 12Lbs on 12s

JOZSEF 12-25-2016 01:40 AM

gman4reel - Can you repeat your test without the intake lip?
I believe,we would get clearer data.Thanks.

More Testing

JOZSEF 12-26-2016 02:04 AM

gman4reel - Thanks for the test videos and the .csv file
They were very useful for me and I believe not only for me.

I compared the test parameters (rpm and the ampere at the full throttle).
I
have decided I am going to buy a new fan unit and repeat the test with the new edf rotor.
I think my old fan rotor was not so perfect as yours.

gman4reel 12-26-2016 05:53 AM

Jozsef - Like I said I'm not as tech savvy as you guys with all the numbers and calculations and such. I'm just a experimenter, trial and error. From what I can see there is nothing wrong with your rotor (unless you've shaved or modified the blades) I've had over seven or so of these CS 4b edf units (mainly because of defective shafts) I have a duplicate CS 4 blade unit using another Leopard 4092 930kv motor and the results are the same. By reason of deduction a balance 4 blade changesun rotor is good. May I suggest investing in another inrunner motor. I will post a video of the setup you are using and we'll see what the results are.

TURNIGY C580L -870 Brushless Inrunner EDF motor ..... NOT FOR 12S applications!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JOZSEF 12-27-2016 01:27 AM

gman4reel - I thought of buying a new EDF fan, which is cheaper than a new motor.
But,If your test result the same as mine, I am going to invest into a new motor and I will repeat the test with this EDF unit.
Thanks.

During my last test there was a non-understandable first part run and diagram .(See post 43!)
I did not know why the motor did not run the maximum power at the start.

One of my more experienced electro modeler friends told me,that the accumulators were too cold.

The lipo accumulators were in my garage all night, where the air temperature was too cold so before the test the accumulators were too cold.In the second part of the test the accumulators were warmer and the motors ran well.

I got my new EDF CHANGESUN Ø 120mm 4 blades.
The new rotor material is much better than the old one, every other dimensions seem the same to me.
I have to change the EDF house too, because during the tests I had some wrong tests ,where were strong vibrations in the edf house
and one of the four motor mounts cracked.

gman4reel - Can you repeat your test of CHANGESUN Ø120mm 4 blades and Turnigy C580L-870motor test with the intake lip,
if your ESC already works well.

Thanks in advance.

JOZSEF 05-14-2017 03:54 AM

I liked better the old style of the RCUNIVERSE web page than this new one. :(

JOZSEF 05-14-2017 04:00 AM

During the test I saw how the power increases when I use a simple intake lip on the EDF,
in spite of the fact that this intake lip shape wasn’t so perfect .

Can anybody suggest me a better or the best shape of intake lip for the EDF?

JOZSEF 05-17-2017 03:02 AM

I think the accumulators and the shape of the air intake lip are the main differences between my test and qman4reel’s test.
I have tested the EDF with an old 12S ZIPPY 5000mAh 45C accumulators, earlier used by a helicopter modeler .
Now, I have less used, almost new TURNIGY nano-tech 6000mAh 25-50C accumulators.

CHANGESUN Ø 120mm 4 blades(with intake lip R10mm,new rotor)
CASLE PHOENIX EDGE HV 120
12S TURNIGY nano-tech 6000mAh 25-50C

I used in this test:
-motor timing : low
-pwm rate .....: 8kHz
-power out ....: 100%
-static thrust .:
56N..(58N)

I drew a new intake lip for CHANGESUN Ø 120mm 4 blades.I hope this new intake lip is more effective than the old one.
I used this picture: Einlauf%20VDE-2041.jpg -(Neuer Impellersound: JETFAN-90, Die Zukunft hat begonnen......... - Seite 21)

The front part of the EDF house CHANGESUN Ø 120mm 4 blades is shorter with 4mm than the original one.

The next diameters need to be increased:
Ø120,0 – Ø120,6 (new)
Ø129,1 – Ø129,5 (new)
Ø133,1 – Ø133,5 (new)

My modeler friend Mr.Antal Fodor ( techshop maneger - IQ Kecskemét Ipari Kutató Kft.) printed me the new intake lip.
I painted inside of its surface for better result.
