Bungee for jets??????????
 

HI every one. One quike ??. Using a bungee lanch, how do I determine how much, how long, for the wieght of the plane??

How long is usually determined by the size of your cord. I use 30 feet of 1/2" dia surgical tubing with 1/8" wall; this allows me to use it on minifan models and some midi fan models.

The rule for stretching is around 5 times the weight of the plane. For example, if you have a HET-RC FA-18 that weighs 36-44 oz (near 3lbs) , you should set launch tension to 15 lbs. I recommend you use a digital fish scale which is very accurate. I have used the digital and a cheap fish scale and the cheap one read 19lbs when the digital one said 15lbs...just something to keep in mind.

I have tried what you guys are telling me to do and I am getting my butt kicked. when do you apply up elevator and when do you apply power. I know it must be simple but I can't make it work. [:@] Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The most consistent launches I have had are with one or two clicks of up elevator. When the pedal is pressed and the model begins moving, you start using your stick immediately, getting it up in the air but not too steep. Fly it straight, right at the anchor for the bungee so the line will drop off. It's about that time you can apply power, which is usually less than a second later.

Get used to the timing. I recommend you set the model on the grass next to the launcher and practice a few times...push the pedal, then throttle,... pedal, throttle...aqlmost a one-two motion and you will get the hang of it. Having enough tension to make the airplane fly is important so it is going fast enough to glide back down without power, but not so quick that you tear the hook out. Make sure it is set correctly.
