Microjet set up please help....
I have a Mega 16/15/2 (400) brushless motor, an E-Flite 35 ESC, and swinging a 4 x 6 APC prop. What batteries should I use? I have a Hobbico Field charger II that says it will do LI-PO. Please help I am ready to purchase a battery very soon.

RE: Microjet set up please help....
I would use a 2100 3cell lipo with at least a 15C rating and I would run a 4.75x4.75 Apc Electric prop.
Hey I just thought I should tell you a whatt's up meter is really handy to get so you can see what works the best! |
RE: Microjet set up please help....
holy moly!!!! 162mph!!! What motor are you using?

RE: Microjet set up please help....
Hi, I use a Multiplex 480/4D and a Castle 40 amp speed control..the battery drops to 8.8 volts at full throttle and put's out about 390 watts drawing 37 to a peak of 46 amps which is within the esc range for peaking. It screams!

RE: Microjet set up please help....
I have a similar setup, but using a CC45 and Kokam 3S 2000mah.
162 sounds a bit high. How did you measure it? I've never clocked mine, but it is fasssstttt!!! Maybe a 100mph. I have to bungee launch it. Too many dorked handlaunches. Coming off the bungee is a kick in itself. :D |
RE: Microjet set up please help....
Hi, If you look at the other postings about micro nuts as we call them here, you see a remote bungee system I use that allows me to launch using my gear switch on the TX and the launcher is flawless. The jet was clocked using two different radar guns both with high 200's mph limits which we've used on the turbines I fly. Actually my speeds are NOT the highest the Micro's are capabale of reaching as I've seen faster myself! The key is a fresh lipo pack and maintaing the motor, Lube etc..I even put spars in it because of the flexing. I just watch a newbie get close to 100 using a STOCK motor,25 ESC, 4.75 4.75 prop and a 2100 lipo..of course the motor lasted about 2 flights! I think the weight helped him a bit. so these things scream but you have to go through a few first! We need a micro fly in!

RE: Microjet set up please help....
I just re-read the original post and the 16/15/2 is a pretty hot motor. I'd be careful with that eFlite 35 regardless of what battery you go with. I'm using the same motor in a Wemotec fan unit and they pull up to 45A. Any idea what the draw is with that propeller your using?
Just thought of one other thing: If you do bungee launch it, make sure you hold some up elevator before release or its going to be a short flight. <g> |
RE: Microjet set up please help....
I was wrong about the ESC. It is the E-Flite 40amp not 35. I plan on hand launching it. I got some good tips (i.e. 2 mm up elevator and trimmed to the right and throw it like a quarterback)

RE: Microjet set up please help....
I will stick with my ZAGI TAZZ motor ... I think you guys must be having a ball at 160+ mph! I amd only doing like 90 max on level flight. I use a Zagi 5x5 prop taching 25,000 RPM. I need to sort out the bungee, like you guys say ... dork launches.

RE: Microjet set up please help....
Try the poly pro batterys from overlander. Great battery at 20C and is quite affordable.
www.overlander.co.uk. They will post it to you in the US |
RE: Microjet set up please help....
I finally got a simple bungee made from surgical tube, its perfect for launching the MJ! No more dork launches!!! I ran the Flight Power 20Cs and it held up well on full throttle most of the times. The battery was about definately under 70C after a whole 8+ mins flight on WOT most of the times. I will have a picture of the bungee set up attached soon, was cheaper to make than puchasing from the LHS. Also, surgical tube seems to give a more gentle launch, more 'linear'.

what do you guys think about a himax 2025 on this plane? it's currently on my 3d plane geared 6.6:1 swinging a 12x6 prop.
for the MJ, i'm thinking of running it direct drive with a 5x5 prop? i have a 1500mah and a 2000mah battery, 12c's. would these be ok? thanks. |
RE: Microjet set up please help....
Get a 'proper' 400 sized motor like the Mega 16/15, Astro Flight etc. If you want a lot of fun and good speed you want something at the minimum of 2,800 KV min.

RE: Microjet set up please help....
I fly the Microjet with a Mega 16-15-2 (4600Kv) spinning an APC 4.75 X 4.75 prop; Jeti 70 amp BEC speed controller, with an EVO 2100 Mah 3S 1P 20C/30C burst pack. P-calc figures (Diversity Models Website) are 163 mph, 510 watts out, 68 amps at WOT, 36,220 rpm. I take all the P-calc stuff with "a grain of salt," but I can tell you it scoots. Weighs about 20 ounces which gives it about 400 watts per pound, which is respectable.
