Temp sensor
 

Hello all,

Can someone let me know a source for a temperature sensor that will come with a small display for use in a turbine in the test stand??? I cant find in my city this sensor for such hight temps. It should be one of those that has a long probe, inserted at the rear of the turbine wheel or the inside of the tail cone.

Any help????

Can not use a IR gun ? It may read gas temp AFTER the engine. Check with a company.

A IR gun may work but it would have to be a high end one that goes to the temp he needs and has adjustable emessivity. What he really needs is a thermocouple probe and a readout device like a Fluke 51. There are many choices for both and this would give him the accuracy and range he needs. Nice to be working in the calibration field....

I have made a search in google for Fluke 51, and indeed it´s a very profesional termometer, more intended for laboratory use as it is too sensitive. When I see photos of engines run on a test stand, I normally see a small screen with 3 digits to show the temp.

The fluke was nearly $300 or more depending on model, to much for wat I was looking for.... Any other chance???

My engine has a small hole just at the begining of the tail cone (just after the turbine wheel), to insert the thermocouple

For 650 deg C you need a J or K thermocouple. A Fluke 51 runs $200, a Extech EA10 is $110, a Extech 421501 is $100.

We have a cheapie at $25... make sure you order the C version... the probe it comes with is junk but should work a little while before it melts. You'll need a high temp probe. It goes to 720 degC.

Dear Evan,

That is was I was looking for, a nice small looking sensor to put in my test bench. Could you please let me know which thermocouple I have to buy to conect it to the thermometer?? I need it to be small and flexible as if it was a wire, to introduce it through the hole in the tail cone.

I would use the one that comes with it and when it melts find one. Actually you can call them and ask for a applications specialist. Here are some... the right probe will last a long time..

There should be a source for this stuff in Madrid to but I would think it would be harder to find. We do have a sales person in Spain but they focus on petro chemical near Algecieras and other places.
