E Flite Bae Hawk batteries?
 

What is the batteries choice for this jet? I am using a turnigy 3000mah 4S and have only 4 minutes of fly time from take off and landing (80% rule). I am looking for around 5 1/2 munites.

I have the same plane and E-flight is calling for a 3200mAh 3S 11.1v 20C LiPo. I just ordered a 3000mAh 20C 11.1 LiPo myself.

I am using 4 cell 3000mah now which flies really well and balance, I am going to test fly it with 4 cell, 4000mah.

What 4 cell 4000 Mah battery fits in this plane? I have test flown mine with a 3 cell 1750 mah battery so obviously I got about a minute and a half out of it. I now want 4 cell performance, so I was wondering what the choices are. 3 cell is too slooww.

I agree a 3S is not adequate for an EDF. I have a Hyperion 4S 3300mAh 35C and it fits in the Hawk. I can get 5+ minutes, but I do not fly WOT the whole time. I have found that the battery has to be mounted way back on the tray, i.e. toward the wing, to get the CG right. The manual shows the 3S mounted more toward the front. I see no reason that a 4000mAh would not fit, but just make sure the CG is OK. I have the ESC mounted with a velcro strap around the vent holes in the belly and it could be moved back more to help the CG with a heavier battery.

what would you recommend as the C rating? 20C, 30C, 35C, etc...

I would recommend 30C if you go with something in the 3200 to 3300mAh range. This is what comes with the Habu and it has basically the same size motor has the Hawk, just a slightly different KV rating. I have measured the power on the Habu motor with the Hyperion battery and it is pulling 800 watts and 52 amps steady state at WOT. I have not measured the Hawk yet, but on one of the threads I saw a report that it was about 900 watts with a similar battery. Based on the current draw, a 20C battery would work, but I feel it is better to have some margin in the rating. If you decide on a bigger battery, say 4000mAh, then 20C is probably OK.

I had 3x 4s 3000mah (30C) and 1x 4s 4000mah (20C), I can't really tell the weight different between the two. I still don't have time to try out my 4000mah yet. You do not want to fly this plane with 3S.

I went with the 5000 4S1P 20C batt. for my BAE. Now I'm just waiting for the parts to come in.

I have a 4000mAh 5S1P 25C-35C that has two dead cells. Is there any way to revive Lipo cells?

What ESC or BEC are you guys using?
I've got a One Dime ESC so I thought about getting a Lithium Ion from Fromeco and a tiny regulator for the Spektrum but that is adding the weight of the receiver battery. Nice thing is it's not that heavy and it isolates 'cheap' Lipoly batteries fro
the receiver.

I think I want to try the 5000 ma, 20C, 4S battery.
Do you think the Turnigy ESC is pretty good. I've heard about some power loss with the cheaper stuff but I don't know anything about this stuff.

I've not had any issues with my esc's thus far. But neither have I flown my planes yet. As noted, they are in various stages of build. with the F-18 going out for test this wkend. I can say, I've felt it getting hot in my hand, so...what does that tell me? We'll see.

Performance and flight time with the 3s is horrible. 4s is a MUST. Much better performance and flight time... Personally, i wont even waste my time with the 3s.... Its just not enough for the edf...
