RE: slo-v for first plane
If you have never flown a plane and want to step right into a three channel system then the Slow V is perfect. It comes with everythig needed to get the plane in the air and it flys very nicely. I to am very new to this RC flying stuff and tryed to start out on a ParkZone Cub. This plane (cub) needs more speed to keep it in the air thus crashes are very inevitable with the cub. I stepped down to the Slow V and my first flight went flawless. I do admit that after reading alot of info on message forums such as this one did help me in getting my slow V in the air and flying correctly on the first flight. Learn to trim a plane while in the air. Once the Slow V was trimmed out I could fly around at very slow speeds which gave me the needed time to think out each move and put it into action. Beginners will crash faster planes because of not knowing how to control it in the air correctly.
If you want to start out a little cheaper then look at some of the cheaper HobbyZone planes such as the FirebirdII st. They are only a two channel radio on them which means you use engine speed to gain altitude or to come down and the other stick just controls left and right movement.

readytoflyfun T-Hawk might be something to look at too. I don't know how they compare price-wise but the rtf thawk package includes replacement parts for those crashes. Plane's really durable and easy to fly for a novice, like myself...
