Default Newbie in need of help

OK I first posted in the jet forum cause I was looking at http://www.nitroplanes.com/neblefeurcdu.html
but was recommended to start with a GWS E-starter seeing I have absolutely 0 flying experience.

So I was thinking of ordering the following
http://www.hobbypartz.com/cosppebrescu.html
http://www.hobbypartz.com/codefo45grmi.html
http://www.hobbypartz.com/exrc62tr.html
some motor from hobbypartz.com no idea which would work seeing I have no idea on airplanes
the GWS itself

or would I be better just ordering http://www.nitroplanes.com/dyskytr1824c1.html and a better LiPo from hobbyking seeing the 1250 seems kind teeny. And if I like it get a better ESC, motor, and 2.4ghz 4channel controller?

I'm trying to stay as low as possible seeing I'm not even sure I'll like flying an airplane. I also need a smaller wingspan cause I'm very limited on room for storage, and my cars not that big so transporting it would be an issue if it was much bigger to the field I want to fly it. Also I'm going to be learning this solo cause I work nights and weekends and will only be able to fly weekdays in the morning to afternoon.

One last question how much room do you need for landing and takeoff (this might just kill the whole flying idea)

Welcome to the hobby, it is a lot of fun.

My suggestion is to take your time getting involved with this stuff. It can get really frustrating and really expensive if you don't put the money and time into starting right.

The Chinese stores (like nitroblah) offer almost zero support and often stuff doesn't work right or needs replacement parts out of the box. I bought a plane from them thinking it was a few hundred dollars less than the name brand, then had to replace $75 worth of hardware, fix covering, etc.

One place to look is here:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=AFA

Tower has amazing support, really good prices (look for their deals!), and quality products that will save you headaches and hours worth of time. Horizon Hobby is another good vendor though I've never bought anything from them.

It's nice to get a quality RTF airplane that you can upgrade, or take parts from for your next plane. This is where you can learn how everything works.

I learned by finding a local club, talking with the guys and getting an instructor for a few flights. I'm sure it saved me quite a few crashes and airplanes, and headaches.

If you're not going to join a club, look for a free simulator online called FMS (flying model simulator).

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply. I know tower I don't shop there due to the taxes I'd have to pay, I usually just use them to find part #'s for RC parts and go Ebay shopping . If I'm paying shipping I might as well get it from some place I don't have to pay another $10-15 on top of the delivery.

the Dynam Sky Trainer 182 I was looking at I read varying reviews from its a great plane, to crashes when I go full throttle, or a flying instructor couldn't even get it off the ground. so yea I think I'll pass on it.

I've been reading reviews of the GWS e-starter I don't see any thing negative. and seeing I can pick one up for $35 shipped and need about the same ammount of parts as that $100 I was looking at I think I'll go for the GWS

So with that out of the way onto the order list
http://myatomic.com/catalog/viewsku?...r_airplane_nps (I order from them alot) $35
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=8338 $30
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...3.8_Prop_Combo (reviews are positive and people used it in the e-starter) $20
or would http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...3.8_Prop_Combo be a better fit for it $15
3X http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...recision_Servo $24 total

For batteries it would be 2 of the following
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._25C_Lipo_Pack $20 total
or http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._25C_Lipo_Pack $24 total
which would be better 2S or 3S the ESC/motor combos could run on either, Or hell could I just run my 5200 mah 2S 30c 333g hard cased lipos in it from my buggy and save cash on the batteries(guessing there too heavy seeing they weigh about 2X the others I linked above)

I'm estimating $160 all together shipped via EMS. Does the above look like a good setup for a starter, and am I missing anything?
I already own a Turnigy Accucell 6 charger.
Everything I chose from what I could find has fairly high reviews. I'll be honest I've dealt with "name brand" RC parts with my ground based RC's and find some of them to be crappier construction than the 1/10th the price chinese parts.

Any input on my shopping list would be greatly appreciated

Here is a thread about the radio you want to buy: [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1051701#post12278359]link to your radio's thread[/link]

Hopefully the link works. Anyway, there is some good information, including how to make a simulator adapter (post #4). You can hook this radio up to your computer then use it with a simulator. You can download FMS for free to get your thumbs used to flying and it will make learning a whole lot easier:
[link=http://www.flying-model-simulator.com/]FMS website[/link]

I don't know enough about the other stuff you listed so I can't comment about what will work and what won't.

And Myatomic.com is awesome Good luck!

decided to go with http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=9042
and the link cable for $2 so I don't have to fiddle with making my own hell its a 6channel for $3 more of the same controller I swear their pricing confuses me sometimes.
2X 3s 2200 lipos
3X http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...?idProduct=662
the 18t 25A esc motor combo

and the Plane itself from atomic

Total including shipping was $161 not far off of my planned $160 budget

and thx for those links

Only caution on that one is it requires computer for servo reversing etc, a friend of mine has a version of this and issues getting it to recognize settings via his computer, hopefully yours will work fine...please keep us posted how things work for you.....BEST

hmm good point shouldn't be a huge issue seeing I'm going to make sure its setup before it goes remotely near the sky. hell I'll also make sure to carry my laptop with me seeing its the size of a Nintendo DS if a setting needs to be changed

Plane should be here tomorrow and the electronics no idea seeing hobbyking has yet to ship em even though they are all in stock...

I hear alot about Name Brand VS non Name brand. BS.

This exceed cub flew great right out of the box. I bought it two years ago and still have it.
http://www.nitroplanes.com/j3pipercub.html

And yes as a hobbyist, after a few very fun flights, I upgraded to brushless for less than $30.00 with parts from hobbycity.com That $30.00 included the Brushless motor/esc and 3s 1300mah lipo.

Here is a vid of the stock plane.

Here is a vid of the brushless upgrade. Very windy day.

well got my parts made sure most work right unfortunately the motor & ESC doesn't have and bullet connectors... I don't know why they don't include any or say there not included (at least my hobbywing onroad ESC said not included) so now I have to wait for the bullet connectors.

Not like I'm in a huge hurry it will take a week or 2 for the field I plan to fly in to dry up if the weather stays as is seeing it looks like a swamp currently from the snow melting.

EDIT: ok checked ESC and motor to make sure they worked. I hard soldered the wires together just to test. Now to wait for the bullet connectors...

GWS e-started in my opinion is the best trainer for electric flying. I used one for training along time ago, and after i was done with it, i just upgraded it(bigger motor and high airleron rates) and i still fly it. I like it over some of my 3D planes. It is a good solid plane to start with.
