"Bird" modifications
Months ago I read a thread about someone modifying a 'bird' V-tail to have an added"down" control. I can't find that thread. Has anyone done a modification to their v-tail by taking the elevator surfaces apart so that they don't 'stop' when they are level with the rest of the tail and can actually go down a little bit. My idea is that when I go into a turn the plane wants to climb into a stall. If the opposite elevator goes down this might counteract that climb (and make the plane roll fast!)
Anyone done that or anything like it? |

What BIRD e you refering to?

I haven't done it myself, but it seems to me that the only thing causing this is that the tail surface is made of thick foam, hinged at the top, with a straight cut. If you could carefully "V" out the cut, I think the flaps would have room to go down, provided the rubber band is tight enough to pull them down.
If you accidentally cut the hinge, clear packing tape will provide a good repair. But bear in mind, a little up elevator through the turns is customary to keep the plane from diving. |

I bought an aerobird tail and it is able to hinge up and down. It is great!! One of my problems was going into a turn and getting so much 'up' that I stalled. Now, I can turn hard and not stall.
Any other combat tricks? |
