RE: I Need Advice Desperately. Help!!!!
Bookstar75,
I too started off on a limited budget and bought the Aerobird Challenger. Really good plane. Very stable and easy to fly. Yes it does have a 27MHz radio but I think this was a good compromise for the price ($150). I like the innovative X-port. I LOVE to drop the !QUOT!bombs!QUOT! from that thing! It is unique in that you can change the mode that it fly's in. (Sport or Pro) One (more) reason I like the ABC over the T-Hawk is that...Wait just checked the website. T-Hawk now has more features! 2 NiMh batteries and AC/DC charger PLUS all those spare parts! But the price is $169.95 I hope you don't get confused by this! I still recommend the ABC. Well since the T-Hawk has more now it is really up to you! I hope I helped you a little though! -ElectricFlyer_17 |
RE: I Need Advice Desperately. Help!!!!
Thanks Electricflyer 17. I guess I have lots to tink about now.;)
I contacted an rc flight instructer here where I live and he said he would help me fly my first time, but he recommends the Great Planes PT-20 or 40 which are also beginner planes, but much more realistic looking. But I really don't care too much about looks, I just want to be able to control it and keep it in the air. I did buy a Slow-V, but I am looking for my second plane now. I'v officially become obsessed with wanting more and more from this hobby. I feel myself drueling over it :D Does this ever happen to you guys? Man, my wife just rols her eyes  |
RE: I Need Advice Desperately. Help!!!!
Your Instructor sounds like a Glow Fuel guy. And a lot of the Glow guys won't even try to help anybody fly electric.
Sounds like it's time to decide if you want to go electric or Glow. I'm all Electric, and flying Glow Designed planes Electric. Technology has brought Electric Flight into being able to effectively compte with Glow. There are powerful Electric motors, lighter batteries and efective speed controls. These have come on the markeplace within the past couple of years, and really made Electric come into it's own. And the loss of flying firlds throught the country due to noise complaints isn't hurting the Glow guys to come over to Electric. When I figure the number of flights I would get out of a $20 gallon of Glow fuel, versus 600 cycles on the new Hi Capacity Li-Poly batteries ($68 for a 3S-1P Pack), I find the Return On Investment to be a no brainer. Never having to clean Goo off my planes after a day of flying also is appealing. I've built 2 Extra 300's for Electric. Both are ARF's designed for Glow Engines. One is a 60 sized ARF and the other is a 25 Sized model. Do they fly? Check out the videos if you would like to see the first flites. And they are still in one piece, and havent had to be cleaned yet. Altacom,
My instructor says he could teach me on electric as well as gas. Great Planes makes a PT-Electric, just like the gas PT-20 and PT -40, etc..... Anyway, I feel the same way you do in that electric is quieter, cleaner, can be just as good, and is probebly the best route for a beginner. So, that said, I will stick with electric and upgrade on electric. I think electric is fast overtaking gas. Maybe someday everyone will be flying electric ;-) Oh, by the way, your links are not working for some reason. What is the browser address then I can just copy and paste it? Thanks again ;) |
RE: I Need Advice Desperately. Help!!!!
Sounds like you have a jewel for an instructor. Don't let him get away.
Trying the links again: [link=http://www.altacom.us/video/Extra300.wmv]60 Size Extra 300S[/link] [link=http://www.altacom.us/video/Extra300_25FirstFlite.wmv]25 size Extra 300[/link] They are pretty big files, so be patient. |

Bookstar75,
"I'v officially become obsessed with wanting more and more from this hobby. I feel myself drueling over it Does this ever happen to you guys? Man, my wife just rols her eyes" Yes! But I'm only 13 (years old) so whenever I suggest getting a new plane to improve on my DAD just says "Why do you need another one when you already have one?" and for now since it's my B-Day on Feb. 16 and I want a PZ J-3 I say: "Well I need to learn how to land without breaking a prop or gearshaft" and says "I dont think so" I think he is getting me one though...:D |
