Speed Controller size

If I have a electric motor that is using 12 AMPS max, what is the harm of useing a ESC that is rated 30 AMPS as long as I keep things under 12 AMPS. Is it because "spikes" of current??
The reason is because this is the ESC that I have on hand.

Thanks

The rating on the ESC is a limit, usually it will mean your esc can handle a constant current up to 30 amps (and probably bursts up to 45amps) if your motor is only drawing 12A, its way below that limit, and I dont see how that could possibly hurt anything.

Hi MX240

BadSplice is right. No harm in using an over rated ESC, just means that it won't get hot when running the motor flat out. The motor will tho'
