Great Planes vs Alpha electircs
Hi,
I'm very new to this, although I've been exposed to model r/c for a very long time, I've really never gotten into it for any length of time. Now that I have the time and desire, and electrics have come so far as has the scaling down it's time to start. I have a few basic questions; 1 - Does anyone know of a local club in the Columbus, Ohio area? 2 - I've always loved military aircraft, and with the advent of the park flyers in military versions, i was wondering about the differences between the Great Planes offering and the Alpha models offering? Thanks! |
RE: Great Planes vs Alpha electircs
In a city like Columbus, there must be at least one quality club. Have you checked www.modelaircraft.org's club search feature? Use the Zip code search. It's more accurate.
Alpha? Who sells them? I think I've heard of ALFA, which is a German or Austrian company I believe. They make much more detailed, high-dollar models if it's the company I'm thinking of. Great Planes is more "sport scale" and a little more budget-minded comparatively speaking, when you're talking about park flyers. If you're rusty, a warbird might not be the best thing to get reacquainted on, though... |

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the link, I've googled for some, but the closest was Dayton... I'll definately try this link later tonight... And you are right Alpha is a german company... and from what I could see their models do seem more "detailed"... I am very rusty as in hardly ever... I actually picked up a Hana ARF and am waiting for spring still and less wind... the scale stuff will be later this summer! Thanks again! |
RE: Great Planes vs Alpha electircs
Yeah, Alpha/Alfa models are sold by Hobby Lobby, right? Exceptional detail, high quality, and they fly pretty darned well too. Only downside is that they're pretty expensive, and because they're foamies, you've got to be really careful handling, storing, transporting, and landing if you want to keep their high-dollar finish intact.
