Aerobird xtreme advice

1 Attachment(s)
Ok, i have no idea what anything looks like on a circuit board. I had removed my xtreme's circuitboard in order to help a friend. His motor control is dead, though his servos worked fine. After examining the board, we decided on a likely looking piece of euiqpment to test. It is a small black component (see image 1) with three wires attached to the circuitboard. The output was 4.3 volts on the two out side wires. However, as i was done testing the inside wires, i must have caused a short because a component, close to where the power wires are hooked, let out a puff of smoke. [X(]
The plane no longer functions. I'm no electrician, so i need advice on what different omponents look like, and how I can try to repair the board. I am not sure where to even start replacing it with "standard" electronic. [&:]
I need to know what an FET looks like, what components determine frequency, and the like.Any help and adive is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.[:o]

How long have you had it . Why not take it back to the hobby store?
