How do you tighten your nuts?
 

I can't seem to devise a good way to hold the backing nut on my prop shaft while tightening the front nut. The only way I've been able to do it is to use a pair of needle nose pliers and put them through the holes in the cowling to hold the rear nut, then tighten the front one. However, it sort of contorts the cowling into positions it isn't meant to be. Ideas? BTW, it is a foamy Edge 540.

Aaron, what I do is run the rear nut till it bottoms out at end of threads then slide the prop on and run the front nut up, then I just hold the prop still and tighten the front nut, seems to work fine and I have never had one back off or have a prop come loose

Thanks, that's what I used to do on my glow engines. However, what happens is the shaft turns as I'm trying to tighten the front nut. It appears the prop doesn't grip the rear nut enough to do it this way...unless I'm missing something, which is always a possibility!

If you're careful, you could grip the threads infront of the front nut with pliers while you tighten the front nut.

What make of gear drive is it and what make of prop is it? To give you a better idea of what to do.

It's an Art Tech Edge with the standard motor (cheapy, I'm sure). I don't want to grab the shaft with a pliers and risk damaging the threads. Thanx again for all the responses.
