need some help on starting...
 

I bought a firebird xl a while ago, but that didn't turn out to be the experience I had in mind when first starting out...the flying worked out ok...but the lack of control for the landings cost me 3 extra wings. Now I've decided to actually get a real trainer where I actually have a real good set of controls. What do I have to look into before buying a kit, radio, etc. I was thinking of getting either the wingo or mini piper from hobbylobby, any opinions on these? Also, what do I need to look for in a good radio controller? Are they all pretty much the same and are they interchangeable between different kits? Any advice to help a beginner out would be appreciated.

The Wingo or Soarstar would be good choice from Hobby-Lobby.
I've helped a couple of beginners with their Soarstars. If you
can overlook their cartoon appearance, they are stable flyers.
We even had one thermal here in Kansas. They weigh a little
more than the GWS stick series to allow you to fly in a bit more
wind. A friend helped train with his brother in a 15 mph breeze
flying the Soarstar. I just prefer the blue over the pink color.

The radio system is a matter whether you think you'll expand to
other planes or not. If you're able to afford about $175.00, then
I would suggest the Hitec Flash 5x. This system has the dual
rates, 5 model memory, and computer mixing. You couldn't out-
grow this system for years. There are other 4 ch. radios that will
work fine also in the $125/150.00 range.

1 Thing about the Wingo/Soarstar/Poppy planes. Anything other than a perfect wheel landing will damage the front of the plane. Any little nose first landing will crack the cockpit. Nothing a little epoxy can't fix but it gets real ugly real quick. Also if your nose in first landing is a little harder, you'll brake the neck of the plane. (the long part of the fuse that holds the wing.
