ideas for a first plane

Ok so i am looking into getting into RC planes. For now i just want something very basic that i can fly around in my back yard (i have a very big open back yeard with no other houses around). I want to get a nice radio that will be good to use with nicer planes in the future, but for the plane i want something very basic. I also think i want to get an electric plane for now. I was looking to get the Airtronics VG400 channel radio. Any ideas for a good plane to start with? the radio with the servos and reciever is about $120-140. I would like to get he rest for about 100 bucks. Looking on tower hobbies there are many electric kits for like 40 or 50 bucks.

RE: ideas for a first plane

My suggestion is to go to a local hobby shop and pick up a three channel ready to fly plane. These planes are pretty cheap, fun and pretty durable, and most important to the novice parts are easy to get. I started with a parkzone Decathlon. Great plane with a GWS, I believe 9x7 prop, the stock prop is crap. The decathlon comes with every thing, including raido and battery, and was not expensive. This way you can test out the hobby w/o breaking the wallet, also if you decide it's not for you then your not out a lot of money.

If you are going to get a nice radio, take a look at the E-Flite Cessna 182 ARF, they have a package deal with a Brushless outrunner for $70, which is a screaming deal considering they sell the plane for $70 by itself and the motor for around $60 by itself. It would be a good plane to learn on.

Since you plan to have the radio already, buy parts for the HobbyZone Super Cub w/o the electronics and put your own gear into it. These articles give you an idea of its flexibility: [link=http://www.ampaviators.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id= 17&Itemid=28]AmpAviators SC Articles[/link]

What size servos come with that radio. If they are standard size they will be too large for a typical electric plane.

This package would work.

I would put these into Multiplex Easy Star.

Or

The GWS EStarter

BTW, I don't recommend standar radios liek the VG600. They work but they are limited.

If you want an Airtronics, I would recommend this VG6000

Or this Futaba 6 EXAS
