Setup Questions

Hello again. Oh aeropal, where are you?? hehe I need some help again :)

Here is the setup I want:

Plane: Graupner Mini Piper
Transmitter: Flash 5x on ch 59
Receiver: 4 channel GWS R4P Sub Mini Hitec/Futaba
comes with 39" antenna to increase range to 1000 ft
Crystal: UM-1 crystal on ch 59
Servos: 2 HS-55
ESC: GS-100E Speed Controller 5-Amp With Brake
Motor: Graupner Speed 300 Plus 7.2v
(says it comes with controller)
Batt pack: Graupner 6 cell 1000 mah nimh pack w/conn
Charger: CG-340 with two pin female JST connector
Prop: HLFK5555 4.9 X 4.3
Epoxy Glue - 5 min

Now for the questions:
1) Does this setup look feasable to you?
2) Do you see any problems with it?
3) Have I forgotten anything?
4) What about the battery having a controller already? Does that mean I don't need an ESC? I thought ESC was used for servos too.

All this is gonna run me about 250 bucks.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated,
Jeremy

Setup Questions

1) Does this setup look feasable to you?
Looks OK. I would have to suggest the Hitec 555 RX instead of the GWS. Better range & les glitching!

2) Do you see any problems with it?
Everything else looks ok!

3) Have I forgotten anything?
Buy some more batteries! :)

4) What about the battery having a controller already? Does that mean I don't need an ESC? I thought ESC was used for servos too.
The battery doesn't have a Controller! The Motor your buying already has an ESC so you can remove this from your list:

ESC: GS-100E Speed Controller 5-Amp With Brake

Good Luck!

darenm,

Thanks a lot for your answers. Yeah, I meant to say the motor already has a controller, vice the battery :)

So the servos dont need the ESC?

And about the 555, i want to get an electron 6 but for the sake of this being my first setup, I was gonna go kinda cheaper. Just in case I jack it up at all. This will be my first 3 channel.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Jeremy

I've found it easier to take off from ground with a lighter battery pack, e.g. 7 cell 720 mah. On the other hand, 6 cell 1000 mah is heavier but good for flying in windy conditions; so you might want to try both and see if for yourself. Also, because the push-in prop will come loose eventually, you will need a prop adapter.

Here is mine.

Thanks caesar,

Yeah I was reading somewhere that I should put a prop adapter on it. I found one at hobby lobby that should work great. I'll try the 6 cell first cause it gets pretty windy out here in hawaii most of the time. Around 8am is the only real good time to fly.

I put ailerons on mine. Jut did some cutting and bam . I also installed zagi 400 with a 1100 mah hecell battery . It flies awsome. Rolls just like any other plane, full aerobatics, and totally fast. you should try it!

haha, im sure I will. I haven't even gotten the plane yet though:(

Caesar, how did you mod your landing gear. I've seen a few other nice piper's like that with that landing gear.

it's very simple. I cut pieces out of a foam egg container (very light and flexible) and painted it yellow and epoxied them to the original wire. the wheels are hobby lobby's 1-5/16" LYT (they are indeed super light but strong). I CAed a tiny piece of aluminum tube to retain the wheel. The original wheels require metal retainers, that add weight. I want to keep the weight minimum because I use the stock motor. The steerable tailwheel is Sullivan 1/2". You could use the plastic Dubro 1/2" also.

Mike - any photos of your mods?
