Plane Lost!What to do?
Ok!Got a new Aerobird 3.I Was having problems getting it in the air, noticed that the tail was loose,it wiggled from side to side.I didn't think that could be the problem but it was worth a try!.A few drops of supper glue and I decided Just to give it a quick toss in the back yard instead of the huge field doun the road where all my previous flight atempts had been.BIG mistake!I fixed it!it took off like a bandit!WAY up and over some woods, and outa sight.I've been sick and searching the woods now for three days[&o]
Is there anything I can do other than buy a whole combo setup agin? Can you buy a Aerobird 3 plane only? Can you get another kind of plane that will work with my transmiter? |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
You can buy a fuselage, wing, tail, and battery. Bt when you add them up, you are better off buying a whole new package.
A fuselage with all the electronics is $42. Buy it on your channel. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ3643 Wing - $14 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ6022 Tail - $10 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ6034 Battery - $30 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ1013 That comes to $96 plus shipping. For $110 you get a whole new package plus a second charger and an extra radio, in case yours goes bad. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ3600 |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
I agree with aeajr. If you need more than just a wing or tail it's better in the long run to buy the entire plane.
As an example, I just finished building a Slow Stick. I bought the Slow Stick Slope Glider (NPS) version. I can find it for $18.90 on various web sites. Just a new wing and tail feathers alone will cost $18.00. For $0.90 I can get a new fuselage (I know that's $10 at my LHS), mounting hardware (a couple of dollars), decals ($3 or $4), control rods (maybe a buck), glue, and other things I'm sure I forgot that would probably total about another $20.00 or so. Just buy a new plane and be done with it. |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
OK!I found it!It was wedged in the very top of the tallest oak tree I have ever seen.I thought no way it was comming out but we had a freak wind storm and it blew out.BUT WHERE!I started goin door to door in the area and at the 2nd house it was sitting on the porch.Come to find out the guy that had found it was into r/c planes(nitro)!and had been looking for the plane's owner.Made a friend!
Now the A3's rx/esc is dead.I've decided not to give up and dive a little deeper into this hobby.I got a used hitec flash 5,2 recievers and 3 servos off of e-*** for $84.What I want to do is put one of the recievers and a esc in the A3 and use the flash 5 on it.Then with a little experience get a better E-plane.Sound like a plan!? |

Buzzbait, little advice for the future, a requirement if you are AMA, put your name and phone # on your bird. Will help get it back to you when things go awry. ;)
Glad to hear you did get it back. |

RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
Hi there,
you can just order all of the parts and the eletronics. you can also order a "Replacent Plane". |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
Man whata story....this will happen to me one day I am sure...being that I am so impatient and eager to fly.....good stuff!
|
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
on your next plane, think of adding a simple buzzer circuit, hooked up to like a lightweight battery or inline with the battery in the plane, so, it will buzz every ____ seconds, so, if it gets lost, you can listen for the buzz, just make shure it is a LOUD buzzer[8D]

RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
Hiya guys - I lost my first plane the other day, my pride and joy EZ*. It was windy, gusting 20mph but the b/less EZ* can handle that, the pilot couldn't!![:o] It shot off downwind and nothing I did changed its flightpath. It went down behind a small hill outa sight. Went over but it had gone, either stolen or in someon's back garden. Reason I'm telling you is: Do not put your address or any other details beside your name and cell phone number (not home number). The real reason: A guy in UK put his address, name and offered a £20 reward. He got a call and was told to meet at .............. ............... address. He went but no-one was there, he got back and some kind soul had cleaned his house out. Be warned. I now have moved my site to the biggest field I could find, its a further 10 minutes drive but worth it.......Byeee.....

RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
Yep, I've heard that scenario before.
I used to turn my cell phone off while I was at home but now I keep it on all the time and put only my cell number on the plane. No name, no address, no home phone, just the cell number with the offer of a reward. |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
I got a funny little story that happend to my brother-in-law when he was first learning to fly.He had been flying with an instructor
using a buddy cord and he showed up to meet the instructor to continue on getting leassons,he waited about an hour and the guy never showed up so he thought what the heck he had been doing good so he decided to fire it up and try it by himself.(OOOP'S)Well he got it up allright and made a turn or two before it got away from him.Around there flying field is several hundred acres of nothing but tall grass,he knew the general direction it went but that was it.His instructor showed up about 15 minutes after he lost the plane and of course they had a few good laughs over what had just happened, then they got talking about how they could go about finding it.To make a long story short one of the member's who happened to show up was a real private pilot who owned a small plane and he ended up giving my brother-in-law a walki-talkie and he drove to the little airport where he kept his plane and flew over the area around the club field, spoted the model plane and directed my brother-in-law to it buy using the walkie talkie's.He got his plane back and it was not even dammaged, the tall grass just absorbed the crash and diden't even break the prop. BIGMIG ;););) |
RE: Plane Lost!What to do?
BigMig - thats a nice ending!!:D Wish mine had an ending like that. There's a vid on U-tube somewhere where they fit a camera to an electric glider and scour the fields around the club, eventually found it as well. I personally like the idea of putting a note on the lipo saying "Must be stored near naked flames" - you can spot the thieves home from miles away. Just joking[>:]
