looking for a plane.
 

Im looking to get back in this hobby, but this time with electics.

I flew .40 - .90 size glows in the NH area.

I was up to a pattern type, but my skill level is intermidiate at best, plus i haven't flown for a year.

I want a plane I can relearn with but also not be bored when I come back up to speed.


Also, I don't know much about gear ratios, motors, and batteries...what do you recommend?

why not check out a parkzone t-28? there is a ton of information about them, most on the forum love this plane, including me. your skills should allow you to easially handle it......as far as getting bored, this model is quite powerful and fully aerobatic, so you should be happy with that aspect, too. it comes as an rtf.......no need to learn about all of this electrical stuff right away. it pretty much comes ready to charge and fly.......with everything you need. good luck, and welome back to the hobby! rob

I flew ARF's mainly. I can do kit builds but right now dont have the time so this one will be an ARF or RTF. As for size....similar to a 40 size can be slightly bigger or smaller, doesn't really matter. I will be flying at a AMA field w/1100ft runway. Im looking for something that I can get back up to speed on. Ive flown on real flight and have no trouble with really any of the planes, but in real life i want something I can handle well. I also don't want to get bored with it. something that slows down nice for landing, doesn't have to be landed really fast. Something that can do some basic aerobatics. Loops, Rolls, Snaps, Knife edge.

Don't want a pattern plane however... probably will eventually end up in the 3d realm.

I want a ultimate bipe soon which I can also fly well on the sim. But I think getting it now would be jumping the gun even tough with duel rates you can really dumb them down.

Radio ... futaba 7 computer radio. Might be switching to spectrum7 channel. Haven't decided.

Price... well not really sure. 350 on radio and another 350 on everything else. Could be more... would be nice if it were less. I guess if I want it bad enough I will get it. Would like to keep it reasonable :)

Have a look at the Hobbico Electristar Select brushless or the Nextstar Select Brushless 40 size trainers. I have an Electristar and it will do what you wanted.

Like most of us whether an electric newbie beginner or an intermediate we often buy on impulse and later realize there was another plane that would have suited our particular interests/skill level. I think all modelling enthusiasts could share at least one such story. Here's my 2 cents FWIW from another enthusiasts perspective.

The PZ T-28 Trojan is a good upgrade transistion plane once you've mastered and become bored with the HZ SuperCub

Consider the merits of a PZ Typhoon RTF as a suitable plane for hours of practice and fun to get your skills fine tuned. During those months you'll have plenty of tine to decide what 3D plane such as a Yak 54 and DX6i or Spectrum Jr. is the best plane for your 3D aerobatic interests whether extreme 3D perfection with a Yak 54, Katana, etc for knife edge slide popups. You won't get bored flying the Typhoon II by ParkZone. Maybe you'll decide you would rather get together with the guys to build and flly combat flat wing foamies. Whatever your interests the Typhoon II may be more interesting/challening than the T-28 Trojan.

i fly both the electristar and the t-28. the t-28 is much more airobatic then the electristar.

I have all but decided on the t-28. I like the looks, the reviews are stellar. I don't think it will be too much to handle. If I get bored, I will modify it with retracts, increase the throws... seems like a good plane.

Im used to 4 channels. I flew the cub of a friends last week and it just was kind of dull. I dont know what version of it he had or if he built it. It was just under powered and didnt do much.

im looking at getting some extra battery packs.

I bought an F18 hornet jet a week ago off hobby lobby website and its a fun plane! It can go fast, 100kph is what it says and from my experience flying it the last few days, it had to be going near 70mph easy especially downwind. It also looks really good! The only thing, the only thing about this plane is the short flight times and long charging times. It only flies for about 5min at a time which is lowsey and it takes over 2hrs to charge the battery. So I am one that needs to buy about 3 batteries and have them all charged by the time I get to the field. Anyway, you will definitely NOT get bored with this plane but whatever you do if you get it, buy at least 2 more batteries because after you fly it you are going to want more and waiting over 2hrs is painful.

Maybe some day. After the T-28 my next plane is giong to be my 1st bipe

Great Planes E-Performance Ser EP 3D Reactor Bipe ARF Is what Im leaning towards. That will be later though.

For those that might be concerned im not starting out on something like a cub... I have flown alot. Used to fly every few days. Gas powered up to .90 size. I also have used the sims for the past month or so...not problems.

I also will be flying at a AMA club and by choice I will have an instructor sign me off like I was a newbie. I will also have them use the buddy box just in case.

Get one of the SebArt planes! Either the Katana S50E if you want 3D, or the Angel S EVO50 if you want a rock steady plane. Amasing stable and good performing planes. I think the best plane I have put together the last 4 years is my Angel. (When it comes to motorplanes, sailplanes are far better ;) )

I was down to my LHS yesterday getting some servos for a Trex 500 kit
I'm building. The store owner took a T-28 outside & flew it in the snow
coming down. Man is that a cool plane, brushless, stearable front wheel,
& you could hardly hear the electric motor. Quietiest electric I'v ever
heard. That thing got up in 10-15 feet. Good speed I thought too. Nice
plane!
