connect multiple electric motors to one plane, running off one battery?

Say I'm building a twin prop aircraft. I have 2 brushless motors and 2 ESC's. How to I make them all boogie together?

Good question. I saw a pretty nice looking plane on Bannana Hobby that has two Speed 370 motors and I was thinking of buying it and replacing them with outrunners. As far as I know, brushed motors can be run off the same ESC, but brushless require an ESC for each motor. I would guess that the control wires would be run to a "Y" connector to connect them to the same port on the receiver. The battery connectors would be joined in parallel so that the two motors see the same voltage. Any difference in rotation would need to be compensated by the rudder. At least that's my best guess. Anyone's comments with actual experience would be greatly appreciated (particularly from Glacier Girl).

I thought that might work, but won't the extra power from the BEC's toast the Rx?

Brent to connect 2 or more motors to a plane is pretty simple if you remember a few basic steps

1) you need 1 ESC per motor

2) you connect your ESC together via a Y harness, BUT you have to disconnect the red wire from one of them, this can be done by pushing gently on the flat part of the connector pin near the end where you see the connector, then pull gently and the wire will pull out of the plug
Now fold that wire back and tape it to the harness, this way the ESC can still be used by itself if needed down the road

3) You do want to connect your batt leads together, this way when your batt power drops it drops to both motors together

4) depending on the plane and amp draw and amount of servo's you may want to consider a flight pack to run everything seperate from your motors

IMHO anything over 4 small servo's when building a twin should use a flight pack
but that's just me

I realy like the sound of 2 motors but it pales to the sound of 4 :D
But that is a whole different ballgame
