Broken Super Cub
My new Super Cub encountered a hard crash and the tail section of the fuselage broke completely in half. I have tried to use some CA glue, but it is not even getting tacky. HELP!!!!

RE: Broken Super Cub
eltoc most of your CA glues need kicker to activate them, it will cure on it's own eventualy
are you sure your CA is good plain old superglue works good on EPP also |
RE: Broken Super Cub
Thanks AJ. I was just using Super Glue. Do I need something more powerful? At this point, I will probably head back to the hobby shop tomorrow for some help.

RE: Broken Super Cub
Chris you must have used alot if it wasn't even curing :D
It's OK it will set It wouldn't be a bad idea if you can afford it to pick up a small bottle of CA and kicker just read the directions carefully, if you set it wrong it's there for good Good luck with it |
RE: Broken Super Cub
When you buy the CA, make sure to get the one that is FOAM SAFE, and get the thicker GAP FILLING one if you can. Put the CA on one piece, spray the surface of the other piece with the kicker, then join them together. You will have about 20 seconds to get everything lined up, then hold the pparts together for one minute. Repair is done.
You can also use 5 minute epoxy, and for some repairs clear packing tape works best. |
RE: Broken Super Cub
Thanks to all for the replys. I'm heading off to the hobby shop after work for some CA with kicker. Hopefully this repair won't mess with the airframe too much. My son was crushed as was I.
Great advice here...Thanks guys. Chris... |

RE: Broken Super Cub
For major breaks in foam, I use polyurethane glue (like Gorilla glue). Just be sure to tape the pieces tightly together while the glue sets, since it foams/expands as it cures.

RE: Broken Super Cub
While at lunch, I stopped in at Lowe's and found some Loctite super glue that included an activator. Would that work?
I think at this point, I'll just wait to speak to someone at the hobby shop. They seemed very helpful. |
RE: Broken Super Cub
Some foams hold up OK to regular CA while others get destroyed by it. To be safe, spend a little bit more and get the FOAM SAFE CA at your hobby shop. If the CA that you applied hasn't cured yet, spray some kicker along the joint, wait 90 seconds and see if it is holding. I would then add clear packing tape across the entire joint just to give it some extra holding power. The packing tape availabe in most Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, etc. is decent, but you can get slightly thicker and stronger tape at your local Post Office.

RE: Broken Super Cub
YESSSS, Package Tape does wonders on Super Cub Repairs, my rear fuselage also broke after being treed for several days, tape is amazingly strong, the Cub is so forgiving on my first repairs even used Heavy Ductape, not a good idea, and yes it also held up well, my wing broke in half, tape fix was durable, still flys like a champ...Good Luck...
Super Cub, Night Flights Strykers B, C Parkzone Spitz Multiplex Easy Star Glider Parkzone Trojan T-28, now heres a nice flyer Vapor, indoor, outside w/zero winds, harriers nose up, what fun... E-Flite Ultra Mini Stick PNP, yet to get this one going, videos promising on youtube |
RE: Broken Super Cub
Thanks to all. I picked up some CA for foam w/kicker. Also used a little clear tape.
Now, for some reason, the control rod for the rudder is causing the rudder to be at a hard right. It's like it's too long. I have tried to adjust the clasp, but to get where it needs to be at close to center, the rod is sticking out past the end of the clasp. What now? |
RE: Broken Super Cub
I use 5 minute epoxy. Gorilla glue takes a while to harden. CA doesn't always seem to hold. 5 minute Epoxy is great and in 1/2 hour you will be in the air again.

RE: Broken Super Cub

RE: Broken Super Cub
Eltoc,
Check to make sure that your servo didn't shift. Disconnect the control rod from the rudder, turn on the transmitter, plug in the battery and test the operation of the control rod and servo. If everything checks out OK and you still need to shorten the rod, unscrew the end piece and cut off the required amount of rod using a wire or cable cutter, then replace the end piece, re-connect it to the rudder and check the operation again. |
RE: Broken Super Cub
