RE: Multiplex USA Mentor kit question
SDG,
I am new to this but will do my best to help you. I built my Mentor last week and flew it last night for the first time. A great trainer for me, very stable but lots of power if needed. It is my first plane with ailerons, I had a Sky Fly prior to this. I think the setup you mentioned in your second post is too weak and the battery will not give a very good flight time. I used the Multiplex recommended kit with a Himax 3528-1000 motor, BL-55 ESC, 11x5.5 Prop and Hub. I bought this iff of the reccomendation of the store that sold the Mentor to me. This is available several places. http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...1&pid=C2330023 I bought my setup at www.nesail.com and I use a 3200mah battery. This gives a flight time of about 15 minutes. The wieght is no problem. nesail recommend up to 4000mah for the Mentor. Good luck with your project. |

Except from the ESC that was too weak, I should use a 60Amps, and boost up the battery packs the rest seems ok to me. If I use a 4s 3500 or something alike, will this be better? Himax spec: Power: 450W KV: 1000 ESC Rating: 60A Weight: 197g Diameter: 35.2mm Length: 54.2mm Shaft Diameter: 5mm Prop Size: 12x6 - 14x8.5 Rm: .020 lo: 2.6 Suppo specs: 175g Outrunner • Kv: 1000, Rm: 0.028, io: 2.9A, Poles: 14 • Max efficiency: 25 - 37A • Max amps: 50A for 60sec • Shaft is 5mm • Dimensions: 35mm x 54mm |
RE: Multiplex USA Mentor kit question
SDG,
That sounds good to me. 55-60 Amp ESC is good The motor you have should be good and you have the fliexibility to go 3 or 4 cell. A 4 cell 3500mah battery should give a nice flight time, somewhere around 16-17 minutes, or more. |

Vtrally,
Thanks for your help, I'm gonna build this |
RE: Multiplex USA Mentor kit question
The Himax power pack from Multiplex provides plenty of power for most flying, and I believe it even has a bit of vertical power in there, for very steep climbs.
The Mentor is a very aerobatic plane on high rates. It will do flat spins, knife edge, stall turns, inverted, ect. ect. It will suite you well as a second plane, and a thrid plane, all in one :D |
