Question on mounting engine

Hello everybody. Still a newbie and I had a question. I am upgrading a cheap 2 ch airplane radio to a 3 ch, and upgrading the motor as well. My question is if my replacement motor is geared, do I still have to mount it at a downward angle to offset the torque or can it be mounted straight? If it has to be mounted at an angle is it pretty much trial and error or is there a precise angle that needs to be used? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Anybody?

To offset torque you might need a little side thrust (2-3 degrees to the right) - downthrust (again 2-3 degrees) is designed to resist the tendency for the plane to pitch nose up under power.

RE: Question on mounting engine

I'm really new to RC planes as well and did find out today that you do need 2-3 degrees of down angle. I was told today by someone watching my plane that I probably need even a little more than that, especially since my motor seems to be way more powerful than needed (but only if I want to fly with a higher throttle, if I'm OK with 1/2 stick or so then I don't need to add in the down angle. So I with a more powerful motor it is even more important.

Thanks for the replies, I apreciate it. Thanks for helping out a newbie.

RE: Question on mounting engine

I'd mount it with about the same thrust angles as the original motor. You can fine tune it from there if necessary.
