I have a Jeti JES 180 motor controller and am new with electrics.

Can get the motor started, but when I advance the throttle, the motor dies. Some one said that the controller and TX has to be programed together, but did'nt explain how! Did not get any instructions with controller.

Motor running o.k. at low throttle but dying when you add throttle is usually too much current or a poorly charged or weak battery.

More details would be helpful, e.g. what motor, prop, battery etc.

Am using a 6V speed 400, 8x800AR battery, 2.33.1 geardrive and a 9x4.7 prop.

Someone said to switch on Tx and set throttle stick to idle, then, switch on controller then push throttle stick to full power which will set controller automatically. He said I was probably starting motor in mid or 1/2 open position and when I advanced throttle motor cut out. Does this make sense??

Why don't you try it and see? You should always turn on the transmitter first, then set the throttle to idle anyway.

As far as the rest of the procedure goes, you may or may not have to arm the speed controller, and the procedure isn't the same on all ESCs. It might help to read the instructions to see the exact arming procedure.

Still, if the motor is cutting out at over half throttle, there are only two likely culprits:

1. The battery is not charged.
2. The battery is too weak to provide enough current, either because it's too old or too small.

800AR cells should be able to provide enough current, if they're in good condition.

yeah, generally...

1) throtle stick all the way down
2) turn on transmitter
3) turn on reciever (or plug the BEC in)
