Founded in 1985, Horizon Hobby, Inc., http://www.horizonhobby.com, is an international developer, distributor and marketer of radio control (RC) cars, planes, boats and helicopters; model railroad; plastic and die-cast models; and other general hobby and toy products. JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Brand Management is responsible for leading a team of brand/marketing managers in the development and execution of brands’ strategies for some of the strongest brands in the RC industry. These strategies must establish strong identity and brand equity for the Horizon Hobby portfolio in the worldwide marketplace. The Director of Brand Management works closely with the leadership of our product business units to define strategic brand vision and direction, then leads the Brand/Marketing team in developing and executing integrated programs to build and secure brand equity and to drive business results. The position will provide senior leadership focused on developing a team that achieves strategic goals in accordance with our mission and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leadership and oversight of Horizon's brand strategies and management of initiatives consistent with our core business objectives and metrics (sales, margin, image, market share, etc.).
2. Coach and develop Brand/Marketing Managers to grow their skill base, excel in their positions and ensure marketing and branding "best practices" across the team.
3. Develop marketing plans, manage product lifecycles, and product positioning in the marketplace. Develop plans to drive the performance of existing products in the marketplace as well as to drive new launches.
4. Lead the team in collaborating with Product Development to create strong value propositions, product offerings, and the delivery of creative marketing strategies and programs to maximize brand loyalty and deliver increased product sales.
5. Monitor market trends and identify appropriate opportunities based upon consumer preferences, opportunity analysis and financial objectives; evaluate and report on results of Horizon's marketing and brand management programs and modify strategies and programs based upon results. Develop Horizon’s ability to understand consumers, customers, and competitors in our marketplaces.
6. Drive a passionate, enthusiastic culture that thrives on understanding the consumers, dealers, and products we bring to market.

Responsible to recruit, hire, and mentor people for superior performance, to provide one-on-one support and development to individual staff members and to lead his/her team under the guiding principles below:

1. Vision: Understands how his/her department's role supports/interfaces with others. Supports and communicates its mission as well as the vision and mission of other business units and Horizon as a whole.
2. Strategy and Execution: Develops strategies for department improvement; defines priorities for managers and staff in order to ensure successful realization of department's mission.
3. Leadership: Aligns management and staff via clear, consistent and continuous reinforcement of mission/values and vision; takes personal responsibility for modeling the mission/values he/she promotes.
4. Staffing: Builds outstanding teams through superior hiring, continuous coaching, periodic formal management/division meetings, objective appraisal and appropriate corrective action when indicated
5. Functional Competence: While delegating many day-to-day responsibilities, he/she will be familiar with the business details in order to provide the most relevant coaching input and to respond in a timely fashion to an emerging crisis.
6. Results Orientation: Is focused primarily on results; capitalizes quickly and aggressively on opportunities for improvement; is fiscally responsible.
7. Service Mentality: Serves, supports and provides resources to those that they lead, allowing them to do their jobs.
8. Learning Mentality: Builds a culture of continuous learning in the marketing department where the bar is constantly raised on having a deep understanding of consumers, retailers, competitors, and products.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1- Minimum 5-8 years brand management experience in consumer packaged goods. Experience with brands that market to enthusiast consumers is desired (i.e. hobbies, sports, gourmet, racing). Our consumers live for their hobby in many cases, and we need a marketing leader who can drive brands at that level.
2- Significant experience and proven success leading teams in building brand equity and in the development and execution of comprehensive, integrated strategies and targeted marketing programs and campaigns.
3- Proven ability to build effective professional relationships and communicate effectively at all levels of an organization (from senior management to front line teams).
4- Proven ability to integrate with a very technical product development team and be able to speak their language. Must have experience collaborating successfully with technical functions and understanding technical products.
5- Proven ability to make solid marketing decisions in an industry where little standardized consumer and market data is available. The ideal candidate is able to operate without large amounts of data, but is also driven to continuously improve our capability to understand the marketplace and bring data into our decisions
6- Experience putting in place structured brand marketing processes around brand positioning, product category strategies, brand visual strategy, and development of marketing campaigns that drive business results. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is comfortable joining a business that has little structure in these areas, but who is also driven to add structure and discipline.
7- BS/BA degree, MBA in Marketing preferred. BS/BA in marketing or a technical field preferred.
8- Interest in the radio controlled hobby industry preferred. Prior experience in the toy industry also preferred.
