The Helicopter Category Development Manager is responsible to manage his or her assigned staff and product category in a way that maximizes sales and margin potential, follows strategic initiatives and product plans, and promotes positive proprietary vendor relationships. The Helicopter Category Development Manger is to ensure that within the helicopter category, Horizon develops and sources the right quality products with the right features at the right cost to satisfy the intended customer.

Has primary responsibility for assembling and organizing resources for superior production of department output, and for one-on-one support and development of individual staff members.

• Vision: Understands how the department’s role supports/interfaces with other departments. Supports and promotes its mission as well as the vision and mission of the division(s).
• Staffing: Spends much or most of every workday coaching, assisting, developing, and tending to the welfare of individual employees; maintains superior staff relationships through appropriate allocation of time to above, and genuine respect for the contributions of all employees; and employs superior hiring, appraisal, and dismissal practices
• Functional Competence: Continuously personally develops department-specific technical skills; contributes to or defines processes and standards for home department’s functional excellence
• Execution: Manages day-to-day delivery of home department output; defines priorities for staff by aligning resources and personal allocations of time with home department’s mission
• Results Orientation: Impatiently seeks results; seeks and capitalizes aggressively on opportunities for improvement; often acts with imperfect information when opportunities warrant it
• Service Mentality: Serves, supports, and provides resources to those that they lead, and then allows others to do their jobs


Minimum of 5 years experience in a product development and/or management setting. Knowledge of the R/C industry and hands-on experience using R/C products is desirable. Experience with R/C helicopters is desirable.

College degree in a related field is required (aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science; this is not a comprehensive list).

Strong project management skills are required, including familiarity with milestone-based project management tools such as Gantt charts.
Familiar with quality assurance testing concepts such as qualification testing, acceptance testing, etc.

Experience in tooling development for injection-molded plastic parts and development of machined metallic parts desirable.

Must be self-motivated, capable of multi-tasking, detail-oriented, and able to organize/set work priorities for themselves and others.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, vendors, and customers.

Should have good proficiency in the use of computers with knowledge in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project applications.

Engineering and 3D CAD skill is a major plus.
