Default "CONVERSION GASSERS... Taking over my fleet!!

Only one R/C glow plane and one lonely little control line glow plane... Two "play time" electrics, and three big "Conversion Gassers" for serious "work".

Everything on the planning board is a "Conversion Gasser" also!

Too much fun.

And occasionally people ask "Is it worth it?") UMMM.... YES!!

Thanks!!

The GSP Katana has a souped up Kioritz 23.6cc running on a gas/glow combo. Fits like a glove, flies it great, and I didn't have to do a thing to accomodate the weight and balance.

av8tor,

I think I remember a thread that you talked about some of the mods you did to the 23.6 Kioritz.
I have a 23.6 that I am putting in a Funtana. I just bought an electronic ignition for it and will do some mods to it over the winter. What rpm's are you getting and what size prop it looks like an APC?

It's not totally broken in yet, but 9000 on an APC 16 x 8. Some guys like an 18 x 6 on this size engine, but I prefer the 16 x 8. I still have plenty of static thrust and vertical climb, and the speed is better.

9000 RPM sounds pretty good. If I remember correctly the best I got so far was about 7200/7300 RPM with the stock muffler opened up, larger carb and stock mag ignition.
I plan to do more to it, similar to the thread that Keith from BME posted.

Yeah, this is one of the "stroker" 23.6 motors we talked about in that thread. It was fun but I don't think doing the whole stroker bit is really worth the work and chasing the parts. A well tuned 23.6cc will turn close to what this one turns without the stroker work.

Your rpms sound a bit low. Be sure to check the ring. They will start and run pretty well with a worn ring, but be down on power. (Ask me how I know... ) Put a Frank Bowman ring in it and check the condition of the bearings and seals before getting too intense on other mods.

Good luck,

I'll do that thanks.
I have not tore it apart yet but by the looks of it it doesn't appear to have much run time on it.
It came off of a pruning saw (pole saw). Still has paint on the muffler and the piston top looks pretty clean.

I understand what you are saying about the shift to conversions over glow. I am getting out of the glow buying market. Conversions are just to cheap to get, do, and run. And I love big planes anyhow. I have 6 conversion planes in the hanger were I didnt have any two years ago. Tommorow I hope to maiden my 1/4 Fokker DVII that has a Briggs and Stratton 34cc four stroke conversion on it. And several engines sitting on a shelf waiting for airframes..........hmmm.......now where did I put that Balsa USA catalog?

I don't know if people reading this post understand that you are running your engine on GASOLINE/GLOW FUEL mix with a glow plug and not electronic ignition or magneto ignition and that your'e still able to get 9000 rpm's and better fuel economy than glow fuel alone!!!!!!

Actually AeroNut, I do understand that. The original post was about moving from glow to conversion, and that is what I was replying to. The mixed gas/glow is amazing though.
