Fifteen or maybe more years ago I found in one of the magazines, could have bin RCM or maybe Model Airplane News, an article for a CDI. I had built it then and had used it on a Saito 120. I had converted two Quadra 35 for it too but never built the CDI for them. Many years and a few moves later I decided to make the CDI for them too. The problem is I don’t have any papers left for the circuitry and how to make it. I Goggled it and that’s how I got to this site. I checked the CDI here but it is different from the one I did, mainly with the programmable chip that you have to use. Mine is much simpler in that respect.
I remade a schematic from the board I still have for the Saito. Once I get it to work I’ll post it here on this thread. The problem I have for now is that some of the parts are obsolete. One of the two is a NPN transistor. It’s a Motorola JE3055 in a TO-126 case. The replacement, BD 607 comes in a TO-220 case. My question is, are the pins layout the same or not? I couldn’t find nothing on the JE3055. If it is the same, I can make the board and try it out and post all the material.
For the first board I bought a coil but now I made already one coil as described in the article on this site. I also will use the ferrite transformer described the article here since I don’t know how I did the first one and the one here looks close enough.

I should have read the JMJ's web page more carefully, I guess. His circuit with out the timer is pretty much the same as mine. Not only sticky fingers, sticky eyes too>[

Pilot Tiger,
Could you explain how to make the simplified CDI circut without the Timer / Advance? Also, where can you get the printed circuit board?
Electronics is my weak subject, but I would like to try to build my own CDI system.
Thanks.
