I tried one of these on a Zenoah g20. it was a little difficult to start at first but after the engine ran a while, stopped and cooled down, refueled, one flip is all it would take to restart. I used the original pulse switch. It plugged right in. I was testing this on the bench so i dont know of any real world performance. Was hopeing someone else has tried it and could enlighten me.

Hobbycity also has RCexell for $28 and change. Like XYZ no sensor [>:]and don't look like they carry it. They call it replacement CDI. Sounds like (or reads like) the XYZ does the job tho. I'm getting some for my plethera of 30cc Homies.

I got a CD ignition that looks just like the RCexcell. I will try too hook up my timing light to it when I get a chance. Best Regards Capt.n
UPDATE There is no easy way to hook up timing light...the spark plug wire has a metal braid and metal cap over plug...which I forgot about Capt,n

Cap'n

Now that you mention the metal cap for the spark plug...I had to dissasemble the xyz plug cap and replace it with the Zenoah cap to get it to attach to the g20. It was a simple operation. Just bend the little tabs open and it comes apart into two pieces.

I flew my Ryobi 31cc conversion last weekend with the XYZ ignition that I bought from Hobbycity. It ran flawlessly. I got 5 flights during the day of about 10 minutes apiece on a 6 volt 2100 mah nimh battery pack and was still over 6 volts when I quit for the day. As a matter of fact, It started easier than my Zenoah G20. I would flip the prop with the choke on and the ignition off until I had fuel in the carb. Then one flip with the choke on and the ignition on. Then one or two flips with the choke off and away we go. I have two of these ignitions and plan to use more in the future.

I see. I like the one I have. I only have 3 engines on spark. all others are on gas/glow. I think in time the 3 I have will be gas/glow but as long as they work I will run them.

This is not a RCEXL ignition. I would guess the timing chip is under all of the black goop and circuit. It is probably a copy of the xl system from the looks of the parts I can see.
Mr. Laing Xu said some one had cloned his ignition Ha. His is a exact copy of my CH system. Looks like the chinese are cloning the Chinese.Very Funny. But I am to old to worry about it.
Send me one and I will tell you if it has a timing control and how it works.I will even send it back. Maybe I could clone it.

BCCHI AMA 2500
BCCHI, do you sell the RCEXL ignition as a low price option to your CH system, which is I head the best you can get. Best Regards Capt,n

I got my XYZ ignitions the other day and installed one on a 25cc gasser from a Feather lite weed eater.

It was easy to get the timing set, starts easily by hand with great throttle response. I'm pretty happy with it.

Mine were on backorder for about 15 days, I bet they are selling like hotcakes, the stock listing on hobby city's website said -14 at one point.

I would like to hear more about you feather lite with the XYZ ignition. I have a 25cc Polaun weed eater engine and had planed to use the same ignition on it. Was curious about your setup. any picture or info would be great. (prop size, rpm, pulse switch mounting, ect)

Is it possible to order a extra pick-up at the same time you order the ignition? Seems like a place in canada sells the sensor also. Not sure. Capt,n

captinjohn, Yes I ordered 2 ignitions and 3 sensors from hobby city. the sensors are replaceable by themselves.

terrymf, As it stands right now I am getting 7450 RPM on an APC 15X8, not bad for an engine with such low compression and 5500 feet above sea level. Now It is taken apart, I sent the jug, piston, and ring to Frank Bowman to have a new ring made for it. hopefully I'll wind up with a better compression ratio.

For the sensor mounting I used a hose clamp around the housing that holds the front bearing and installed a magnet in the prop hub. Also I think CH Ignitions sells a timing kit for this engine too, I ordered one.

I'll report further and take pictures when I get it back together again.

I also stopped into a small engine shop this afternoon and bought 4 more 25cc feather lite weed eaters for 15 bucks each. they all run but need a little carb work, that should keep me out of trouble for a while.

No I bought an aluminum muffler for it from wackerengines.com for it. the initial investment of $8.00 for the weed eater seems to have paid off. I'll make another thread for it after I get the ring back and get it running, but I sure am impressed with that cheap XYZ ignition from china.

I cannot understand why some people pay $55 and up to $85 for the same exact ignition. There is about 4 different engines that use the same ignition and sell extras for $25..$28 each depending wich brand and who sells it.[ul][*] The only reason I can think of is...the China made engines have all the parts you need to repair them and they know sooner or later if you bought ignitions...you most likely will start buying complete engines...ect. Good business for them! Capt,n[*] [*]

Hello all,I'm try to use one of these units with a CH prop hub and sensor.I'm not sure of the pin out between the two.Is CH Black=neg,Red=pos,White=signal and is the XYZ Black=neg,Red=pos, unshielded(bare wire)=signal.Any help would would be appreciated.I don't want to smoke these things,I waited almost two months to get this XYZ ignition module.

Thanks in advance Jim.

I tried this but was unable to get it to work, I stopped trying before I fried something, so I used the XYZ pickup and built a similar mount as the CH mount.

The CH pickup tests like a transistor, and the XYZ does not, or at least a different kind of transistor. I don't think the two are compatible.
I measured the CH pickup and found 2 P-N junctions, I only measured 1 on the XYZ sensor, and that's the one I am using now so I know it works.

If I had a schematic of the ignition module I could determine for sure if it would work, or at least find the correct type of sensor. but I have not been able to get a schematic.

Oh yeah, and the magnet on the CH prop hub is the correct polarity to operate the XYZ sensor.

Ira
