Poulan 42cc - Mine has Different timing key
I picked up a reconditioned Poulan 42 chainsaw at the local Princess Auto for $100 Cdn. Ordered a CH ignition unit for it but when it arrived it was clear that the timing key was about 90 degrees off for the hub they sent.
Sent the unit and the engine to CH and apparently Poulan is mounting the mag pickups in that chainsaw case at a different angle than they're used to seeing at CH
Anyway, CH says they're going to make the hub/adapter with two keyways to fit the 42cc in either timing conifiguration.
If you've never dealt with the folks at CH, you should! Great service and they really know what they're doing.

Poulan 42cc - Mine has Different timing key
That's very interesting. I just picked up a brand new Poulan Pro260 (42cc) with the durachome cylinder off Ebay. Not that I need yet another engine, but darn it, the price was too good to pass up. I got it half way taken apart last night, so I will check it when I finish it tonight. KD, what position is your keyslot relative to TDC?
Couldn't agree more about CH. Terry is great guy to work with. Bill is fun to chat with too. Some of my conversions are worth more than commercially available RC gassers, but I would rather CH make my money. Plus, if the engine goes kaputt, replacement short block are relatively cheap.

Thanks Terry. Sooner or later I'll be ordering a CH kit for the new Poulan 42, but for now, you don't need me to tell you I've got way more engines than I know what to do with.

Poulan 42cc - Mine has Different timing key
Hey guys,
I also have the Poulan 42 with CH conv. kit.
This is my first conversion, so bare with me. My key is also approx at 9 o'clock at TDC.
The magnet should be at 6 o'clock ( i.e. where the sensor is mounted) when the piston is at TDC...correct?
tkg, can I send just the hub back for a proper key fitting, or do I need to send everything?
Thanks,
J
