Hello!

The only gas powered trimmers/saws availably to me at a price cheap enough to be of interest for a conversion are the mcculloch line.

There are 21cc, 24cc and 28cc trimmers and two smaller saws in the 30'ish cc range.

What engine would be the best candidate for conversion in your opinion?

Hey, I need parts for my old Mcculloch Powermac 310 chain saw! If either of the saws are that model let me know, I'll buy some parts from you!

The 28/32 are the same engine. In fact the 32 weighs less. SOOOO its the best. Done right it will turn an 18x8 at 7800+.
I've got several that will do over 8000.

Yeah, stay away from the McCulloch saws. Real weird layout that won't work with a prop, and roller instead of ball bearings.

The 28/32 weedeaters are great however. Lots of power and very easy to convert. Nothing to cut off. Once you get it all unbolted out of the weedeater, it looks like a "proper" little airplane motor!!

Actually after looking at my mac there is room to put the thrust needle bearing inside the case
will work very well also engine has proper transfer ports ( 4 of them)
think this engine will go well on my hovercraft

I have two 32's with C-H ignition. One of them has some of TKG's mods done to it. They just look and act like model airplane engines.

The various chain saw 32's are completely different from the whackers. I have two chain saws and they will just have to stay that way.

Today is your lucky day. The real deal is that the McCulloch 21cc trimmers in Europe are actually Poulan Weedeater engines. I am attaching a website in the UK that tells you exactly how to convert one. I think that the 24cc is also a Poulan. People have had good luck with these engines in R/C. I was told that a Japanese company bought McCulloch and stopped making the trimmer engines. I guess the eurpean branch uses Poulan engines to meet demand in europe. Eurpean chain saws may be Poulan also. I think that they even have a video.

Hello,
I was on the phone with Poulan corparate today and so I asked about McCulloch trimmers in Europe. They confirmed that the trimmers use Poulan engines.

I have a Weed Eater 21 from a Featherlite trimmer that also looks exactly like this. I'll see if I can get some pics of it.
