Ryobi conversion kits
 

Who offers conversion kits for Ryobi 31cc engines? I know of JAG, RSEngines, Paragon and Carr.

I just want to check out all possibilities.

I ordered an engine mount with carb spacers, prop hub adapter and a machined flywheel for my older Ryobi 28cc engine. The cost was $59.00 for eveything. They also have lorge bore walbro carbs and mufflers the the Ryobi. I order my parts off of e-bay but you can order from the website.

I've had great luck with Peter Faith from www.wackerengines.com. I've got quite a number of parts for both ryobi and homlite engines from him and I love the quality,e-mails and overall service and knowlage. I just sent him some oddball 25cc engine I found that had lefthand metric threads and he's machining a hub for me along with a muffler just for that engine. Hes not charging me anything more than the same parts that he would make for the other engines. Give him a try, I think you'll be glad you did.

I also ordered my conversion hardware from wackerengines.com. Have you ordered the machined flywheel from Peter. I am new to this conversion stuff and I was wondering if the machine flywheel really makes that much difference. And I would like to know you opinion on the larger carb and muffler Peter offers. I will get these also from Peter if they help much.

Oh yes. You want to shave down the flywheel. I was balancing one of my flywheels that had already been milled down, and just to see how good of a job I did, I mounted it in the chuck of my dremel and slowly spun it up. Took me by great suprize how much air was being moved even with it milled down. A full flywheel must rob TONS of power, like 500-700 rpm I'd bet. The carb that Peter offers would be a good idea as well but if you want to spin large dia. props stay with the stock carb. You want high rpm go with the larger carb. If you try a larger carb than what my ryobi came with (walbro) and then swing a 18-8 or a 20 something prop, the air vilocity through the carb is becoming to low to work well and your better off to use the stock carb. The reverse is true if you whant to use say a 16-8 or 16-10 and go for rpm, put a large bore carb on and dont fall into the prop.lol Peters mufflers are the best I've seen for our use. The #1 reason is that his pipes screw in to the muffler. Think about it, no one elses pipes are like this. This allows me to make to small holes in my cub cowl, place it on the plane and then just stick the pipes up through the holes to screw to the muffler. Nice clean install. No huge gash nearly the length of the cowl to slide over welded pipes. In most caces his mufflers are cheaper. Hope this helped. Mike.

I plan on using this engine with the Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker D VIII or the Stringray 120. I will try the standard carb first with the 18x8 prop. If that does not work I will put the larger carb on it and try a 16x8 prop.

I thank you for your help with this. I have just called Peter and ordered the muffler for my Ryobi.

Jim, I've buitl the stingray 120 and belive it or not, flew it with a Malonet 100. It flew good but it took all the motor it had to loop. I will say you should move the firewall back some. I didnt and needed lead in the tail to balance which added to it overall weight that I think was about 11lbs. The ryobi would make it a great performer but because the ryobi hangs out from a rear mount use the 2" one. If memory serves me, I was using a 15" or 16" prop on that Maloney and still had good ground clearance for the prop. Make sure to look at that if you build one. The Homelite 25/30cc is a better choice, because you can get more acessories, including a water jacket.

I have a Ryobi 990r that I want to convert,then build an aircraft somewhat like the Home Depot built by Mike Emily .I have been looking at wackerengines and carr precision.
This is all new and a long term project and I know nothing .So I need to learn!
