Inverted 4-stroke?

1 Attachment(s)
I am about ready to fly my 4-mix 65cc. FYI the oil is in the gas on this one. As I mock it up I see the jug is really high and funny looking. Is there any reason not to run it inverted? Would gas and oil pool in the valve cover, for instance.

Oh, this the the one I was playing with some time ago. I removed the compression release spring. I got a new carb from a generous benefactor. It is running pretty good. 22x10 MENZ turns up 6500 and idles at 1300. Putt-putt :)

Should be no problem running it inverted. If it sits for a long time, it might smoke a touch on start up, but that's about it.

I haven't run the 65 inverted, but have the 32 mounted inverted, no problem.

RE: Inverted 4-stroke?

It is EXTREMELY balky when inverted. The oil from the crankcase drains into the pulse line. It is crazy hard to hand start. I was working on starting it. I was bringing the prop through compression trying to trying to get fuel into the engine. You know how you can hold the prop tight and turn it over until it kicks then flip it to start? Well I was doing that and my daughter came out and saying, "DADDY-DADDY". I lost my concentration, and just then it fired and the prop came around and hit the back of my hand. I thought it was broken at first. It was like that most of the day. It just did not want to run. I finally got it going and it seems OK. It does not want to start when hot. I definitely need to get another starter.

I didn't have such problems with my Honda GX31 running inverted, and it has an oil sump. The only problem I had was that when it sat for a long time, the oil would drain down and flood the spark plug because it was centrally located. I used to just take the plug out and stuff a piece of rag in the hole when it was in storage.

I re-mounted the engine with the jug facing up. It started easily, ran great, no issues. This thing is really powerful. I was running a vess 23A today. It seems to run just as fast as the MENS 22x10 (6600 RPM).
