Stihl 65cc "Four Mix" four stroke engine

The airplane is a Bridi big bee. The prop is a Vess 23A. Sounds like a flying lawnmower. :)

Sorry had to fix the link.

VERY nice. Glad you are finally getting some good use out of that engine. It sounds great!!

Darn it, now you've got my (already high) interest increased to get one flying myself! I sold two of the 32cc Stihl four strokes to guys and they are quite happy with them. I have a 36cc that I saved for myself and am just waiting on new rings to finish it up. Plus I have a couple more 65cc four strokes to do. Too many projects!!

Anyway, looks great. Like you said; a lot of power too, but that sound..... I can just see/hear one in a Fokker D7, or another oldie favorite of mine, an AVRO Triplane!!

Note: Your title is wrong. It is a Stihl 65cc "Four Mix" four stroke engine; not Echo.

RE: Stihl 65cc

It would do well on a D7. The exhaust is on the correct side. Making a scale exhaust pipe would be no big deal. I would probably leave the magneto. The flywheel is relatively tiny. The weird 11mm prop hub thread is the only possible issue. I re-threaded mine to 10mm. The straight non tapered crank works fine. The prop hub was easier to make accurate because of that.

I've never heard of these engines but after hearing your one fly would look at putting one in a decathlon of the right size any problems?? converting one to fly..

av8tor, How did your 36 cc four mix turn out? It would be interesting to see & note differences from the 32 cc job's

RE: Stihl 65cc

I haven't had time to finish it up, but as great as the 32cc engines ran, I am sure the 36 will be a good runner as well. My 36 doesn't lack much to be ready to run, but I've just been too busy...
