Efco 8420
 

Here's one for you guru's. I was just given a brand new Efco 8420 weed wacker (never been run) It has no carb though and no trimmer end to it. The case states "bagnolo in piano" Italy. There is a 40 stamped on the cyl. head. Would this be a 40 cc. With no trimming it weighs a tad over 5 lbs. This includes a very large steel muffler. I believe I could trim it down to 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 lbs. as it has a lot of case to remove.

I tried to fit both a walbro and a tillotson carb on it but the hole pattern is not the same, it is larger. I was thinking of making a carb spacer to fit the motor then to fit the carb. The coil was also attached the case and not the motor so I will try to make a bracket to fit the cyl. bolts. What do you folks think and what the heck is it, Kiortz maybe??? :confused:

over here we have an importer who deals in all the various italian made garden tools like efco, oleo-mac, ciffareli...good pro quality engines for the most part and are also used in a few of the "pocket bikes" that come from italy

if you have trouble with the mag you can just toss it and get an electronic ignition.

carb mounting holes in cylinders are usually spaced farther apart than the carb holes themselves, the carb adaptor/insulator makes it all fit together.

Thanks Dave, Don't have the carb adapter either and I guess I'll have to make one. The quality seem's pretty good, it is also a two ringed version with lot's more compression than all the other weed wackers.

I did a search here on RCU, tried to do a internet search on this engine as well. all with no luck :(

I thought some one here would know something.

here's a link to the efco site. looks like they have downloadable manuals but i don't see your model #, maybe it's an older model. try mailing them for info.

Thanks Dave, I had tried to search the net with no luck. Made a rough carb spacer and fired it up. It ran very well but no prop on it to give you the figures. I'll let you all know what the figures are when it is trimmed and tached.
