New ethanol proof walbro diaphragms
Well now, these are the answer to my prayers if they indeed work as advertised. Can't seem to find any for sale though, even though the news release for them is dated a year ago. Being the suspiicious sort myself, I am guessing that is by design so that all their retailers can get rid of their "junk" inventory first....
http://spiraldiaphragm.walbro.com I want some!!! AV8TOR |
Methanol is here to stay I'm afraid, so this is just what we've needed. Hopefully these will work as advertised and be available soon.

Acually, it is ethanol. And yeah, I wish they would get the new parts out for sale. They've made a big deal about it on their website, it was supposedly introduced a year ago, and I still can not find any for sale. I sent them an e-mail as the website recommends... no answer.

Av gas serves me and others well.
Haven't had to change dried-up pump or metering diaphragms for years since switching over. Even use it in yard equipment. |
I should probably just do that; switch to Avgas. It's not even that expensive and the benefits of quality control and stability of the fuel are quite significant. And you certainly know the octane is sufficient for any type/brand engine you might use. Plus it smells good and reminds me of my racing and piloting days!!
A caveat though. If you fly a lot, or use whatever machine you might put the Avgas in a good bit, it would be good to change the spark plug a bit more often than normal to avoid any lead fouled spark plug issues. It wouldn't hurt to pull the muffler off once a year and inspect for carbon build up as well. These issues however, are not a "deal breaker" against Avgas, and might only be a small issue on heavily used equipment. Jeez, I was wandering through Home Depot yesterday, and noticed the special premixed "Non-Ethanol" gas they sell for weedeaters and such. $22.00 a gallon!!!!! What a rip off!!! I suppose though, that if it kept a non-mechanically inclined homeowner from having a $100.00 repair shop bill once or twice a year, that it might be worth it. But man, more expensive than glow fuel!! AV8TOR |
Yes, I have to laugh too looking at that pre-mixed fuel !
Checking and/or changing the plugs when running avgas is a lot easier than rebuilding the carb! |
Northeast PA heh. I was born in Meyersdale, PA. (Sumerset county) Beautiful country and I often miss it. Sometimes I think I'll never forgive my parents for moving the whole family here to the desert back in the '60's. Especially when it is 115 degrees in the shade and the only "grass" is something they smoke!
