Taking the dust off of a 80cc
I finally got an engine (from a pumping device)! This are the specs:
Manufacturer: "Campeón" (it means "Champion") Model: 0-80 (79.78cc) Carb: Campeón - Zenith (21mm of intake diameter) RPM: 2500 (I assume they are measured at full throttle, with the pump bolted and working). HP: no idea, the label was scratched. Muffler: is almost dead, I'll try to make a tuned pipe and at the same time gather some experience with my welding machine. After working the engine out of the device, and giving it a quick wipe, I found it was in good shape and ready to roar again. However there are some things I'm worried about... -How much weight should I expect for it (the engine is made out of aluminium, except the engine block which is steel)? Or maybe what power-to-weight ratio? -What oil works best? What is the oil/fuel mixture? - The crankshaft potrudes out of both sides, should I cut one? Should I use the same flywheel (it's pretty heavy though)? - In order to make useful for a plane, is there anything I should do above from machining a prop holder? Any tip/design that you would reccomend? - In case the original spark system is dead, what can I do? - Any other tips? Thanks again for your help!! I really want to make this big boy growl again![&:] |
RE: Taking the dust off of a 80cc
Ok I found a thread about ignition, problem solved - I think.
I will also try to put ball bearings on it, but in case I didn't, will the engine fail soon? What plane could such an engine move? Thanx and sorry for my poor memory. |
RE: Taking the dust off of a 80cc
Hi.
Is this a 4 stroke engine or a 2 stroke? Sounds like the cylinder barrel is made of cast iron (heavy!). 2500 revs seems very low, and suggests low power. All this combined with a heavy flywheel makes for a very poor power to weight ratio. Unless you are a very good machinist, I would say that converting to ball bearings would be beyond most people. does it have needle rollers? - Sorry to make things sound so bad, but it sounds to me to be a difficult project. I think that in Spain it should be possible to obtain a relatively cheap chainsaw engine. but 80ccs would need a very large aircraft. ( probably 1/3 scale size). Having said this, nothing is impossible, however don't take on too much. There is a thread somewhere in in this engine conversion forum called "is there hope? can this engine be converted" ( approx #54) which might answer most of your questions) Good luck. |
