Header to muffler connection question. ?
 

I have a Zenoah gas engine. I have a header with a 5/8" pipe. I want to use some type system to route the exhaust to a can muffler mounted to the rear of the engine area. Can you use a piece of heater hose for this? I also have some of the flexible metal gas line hose. Can you somehow connect this material to the ends of a header and muffler without it vibrating to bits? Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have used hi-temp hydraulic hose from a farm machinery store on the tuned pipe/muffler joint on my MX bike. Multiple sizes available. Works great but is hard to cut.[>:] Metal braiding inside.

The exhaust gas temperature on a gas engine runs between 1100 and 1400 degrees depending on how you have the carb mixture set. Most rubber products will not resist this temp., or not for long. You need to find some silicone tubing for an exhaust hookup. That's what the model engines with tuned pipes use. Lightweight metal tubing will almost certainly fracture from the vibration.

service trucks in Phoenix use reinforced silicone heater hose, maybe an auto parts store would have some..It's not pretty but would probably work..
