OK, So I screwed up!

I was tearing apart my latest acquisition from the local lawnmower shop, a 25cc weedie in perfect shape, at $5.00, and in the process, I messed up the back plate. This is the model that has the rear induction carb that mounts on the backplate, which also holds the reed valves. Now it won't seal and is completely useless. Can anyone tell me where I can get either a metal backplate or a replacement plastic one for this engine? Sorry but I dont know the model number.

Thanks,

JimRoss

Oh, and it's a Weed Eater brand.
Picture is forthcoming. God, I love my digital camera.

This is my assistant, he guards the R/C shop while I'm working. Buillding a plane large enough to take him for a ride. Think a Senior Telemaster would carry a 5 1/2 pound load? Other picture is what I had to have done so the paramedics would know how to recover the body on my next trip to the ER.

thats a poulan,i have a new one never even run i will see if i have an extra back plate laying around

RE: OK, So I screwed up!

Did Poulan and Weedeater merge or something? It was definitely in a green weedeater case as you can see from the pics. At any rate, I appreciate what you are doing. It really sucks that I messed this one up. I have big plans for it.

This one is the rear carb reed valve model. Reed valve plate is part of rear housing. Too Much Information???????

Thanks again.

Weedeater, Craftsman, poulan are all the same if they are 32cc. Made by Poulan. I even have one that's branded Husqvarna! They are good runners and similar to Ryobis but weigh more. I have LOTS of used pieces for these engines and if you can't come up with pieces locally, try me!! .......Bob

Jim,
If you move up the merger/food chain you'll find that Weedeater is now owned by the Electrolux corporation, along with a whole slew of other acquisitions. I think Poulan is in that group as well.

I've got one of those engines, too, I think. Bought a Weedeater leaf blower on the sale table at WallyWorld. First thing I discovered was that the thing weighed a lot more that my Ryobi's or Homie's! The cylinder and block is physically larger, too, as well as being double-ringed. The carb is a WT-538. My rear carb plate was black plastic, though; so it may not be the same model as yours. The shape of the cylinder top sure looks the same, tho...

Ken,
If you have an extra backplate I would be interested in purchasing it. Let me know how much you want for it.

Change the carb! The 32cc engines actually have a smaller venturi carb than the 25cc! I have both and this really surpised me. Then I found the reason why, if they don't restrict the intake, the thing will rev like crazy. So they do this to control the top speed of the engine. I don't think a 10,000 rpm string head would be a good idea.

I thought that carb looked awfully small. I have a friend who converts these engines and he does a great job, I can get a larger carb from him. Actually, I'm kind of excited about this one, it should be almost the same as a G-38. We'll see anyhow.

Those standoffs and mounting plate look good. Does the rear mounted carb effect the way the engine runs? Would be real easy to hook up throttle connections. Did he leave that can muffler on it? Mine has the muffler that is mounted with springs to the head.

Ken,
As I was sitting here writing my last post, the mailman came and brought the back plate. It looks like it will work but I need to go out and try it. I'll let you know how it fits.

Thanks X 10

Well, the backplate fit perfectly. I did have to take off the old gasket and use the one that you sent with the backplate. For some reason it wouldn't go in the hole on the old gasket, so I jsut replaced it. Perfect match, carb hooked up, screws all tight, ready to do some sawing on the excess metal and flywheel.

Thanks again,

Hi guys 1st timmer here, i am a boat guy building a gasser using a poulan 32cc. it still has the stock carb (real small!) no mods yet but i wanted to ask you; i see that you mentioned that they can rev like crazy? well that is what we need in boats, what would be a good carb to put on it so that i can get some more rpm out of her? if anyone here has the stock timming and what they should be for my case that would be great too but i dont want to push my luck here on my 1st posting...
Thanks in advance for any info that might help me out!

RE: OK, So I screwed up!

The reason for the small carb is to prevent it from over revving and blowing up. Most of the weedie engines are not good for to much over 8000rpm or so. The saw motors are better for this and should turn 12000 or better without too much of a problem. Give Dick Bennett (B&B Specialties) a call and see if he has the one they use on a Quadra 35. A Zenoah G38 carb should work as well. Sorry I don't know the numbers at the moment.
