first conversion, and boy, do i have a problem

i have a 2.0 cubic inch poulan chainsaw, that i want to convert. i took it all apart, and it seems that the oil reservoir for the chain, is part of the cast block. how in the world do you remedy this. do you somehow grind this off. i really dont see how to do this. any help will be appreciated. please remember i am brand new to this.

RE: first conversion, and boy, do i have a problem

I am in the process of doing a Stihl that sounds the same. I was excited to find a 40 cc saw cheap, with a Mahle cylinder, But the fuel tank, oil tank, and crankcase are one big casting. I used a band saw and removed most of the material, but It will still take a lot of grinding, and then some fabricating for a mount. I also have no place to mount the coil anymore, since it too was on a VERY large chuck of casting, under the engine, not on the cylinder like would be so convenient. On the plus side, when it's done, it will be very small and light. Also on mine, the carb mounts to the side of the crankcase (reed valve) which makes it even more compact. It's kinda on hold right now, while I mess with the Honda GX25 :)
