What is The Most Popular Chainsaw Engine To Convert?
I was wondering what is the most popular and reliable chainsaw engine to convert? Are there any conversion kits for these engines.

RE: What is The Most Popular Chainsaw Engine To Convert?
The late model Poulan and Homelite saws in the 33 to 46cc range have been very popular in the last couple years. These saws have a crankcase that is split along the C/L of the crank bearings with the CYL and the top half of the crankcase being common. The oil and fuel tanks are plastic and bolt to the bottom of the engine crankcase at the parting line. These engines can usually be identified by flipping the saw upside down and being able to see the four bolts that hold the tanks and the engine halves together. The late model McColluchs are not very handy to convert therefore, you never hear anything about them.
Several outfits sell conversion parts. C-H ignition has parts as well as Whacker and several othe people such as K. Lambert and R. Cunningham among others. Enjoy, Jim |

The better to me is poulan 46, is almost a model airplane engine, with some work you can do and if you get an CDI you will have a brute power engine. I have a Poulan 36 and and a 46 i love them;)

If you are not machining your own parts, then Poulan and Homies get my vote too. If you don't mind spending a little more for a wrap-around Pitts Muffler, Bisson has one for the Poulan. That makes it the only chainsaw engine (not counting BMEs and such, of course) to enjoy such support.
Overall, the Poulan 46cc is hard to beat. |

Check out this thread on Homie 45. I found it enlightening. Chris has some great photos of the conversion. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_18...tm.htm#1814918

I bought a new poulan 46cc chain saw and took it apart. Well every thing looks good but the carb. Its only held on by a rubber boot and bolted to the plastic frame. How are you guys getting the carb to stay on this way.
Thanks |

Dear friend
You can put the carb with a rubber tube and fasteners, but the best is to make a manifold with finland plywood and epoxy and attach it with bolts, is not easy but possible |

The Echo CS 510/520 is basically a BME 50. It is not cheap if you are going out and buying a new one, but you might find one at the local small engine repair shop or online auction. The Stihl saws are real strong and light as well. Just be sure you get the even numbered saws and not the odd.
