homelite conversion
 

i am doing my first conversion on a 25cc homelite. i have received the conversion parts from wacker engines. when i removed the original fuel tank, there were two fuel lines attached. one went to the carb, and the other went to the squeeze bulb. what do i do with these lines now. also what is the correct way to attach the throttle linkeage to the carb. i cant seem to figure out a method to do this. any help will be appreciated.

Sometimes the squeeze bulb is part of the carburetor, and sometimes it is mounted separately. If it is part of the carb, you can block off the line that went to the squeeze bulb if you don't want to use one. If you do want to use the squeeze bulb, use a three line fuel tank system. Two of the lines need to be fuel pickup, (one to the bulb, other to the carb), and the third line is the vent/overflow. If you are going to use a starter, you can get away without the squeeze bulb. I kind of like not needing a starter, and so I generally use a squeeze bulb to get the fuel up to the carb initially. However, I also use CH electronic ignition on my engines, which makes hand flip starting a lot easier. If you are going to use the original magneto ignition, you might need to use a starter to get easy starts.

The throttle linkages often require some engineering to hook up, including sometimes bellcranks, etc. Another option for the Homelite is a "twister" manifold available from Carr Precision, that mounts the carb at a different angle allowing for an easier throttle hook up. Use a cut down 1/2A bellcrank and some aluminum angle from the hardware store. Here's a recent picture of someones solution on a Homelite weedie but my two look exactly the same.

Regarding the throttle linkage set up using the Dubro 90 degree bell crank and ball link connectors,the present set up is OK with the acception of the way the carb is mounted.The way this is pictured now, it prevents you from easily adjusting either the low speed or high speed needle valves as they are tight up against the firewall as is the carb idle adjusting screw(not that you will need to be adjusting this screw anyways.Your radio's throttle trim tab will be used to set the idle or kill the engine if need be.Just like a regular glow engine setup.).Rotate the carb 180 degrees so that the carbs throttle lever and needles are facing forward instead of backwards.All you will be doing here is reversing the present set up to allow you easier access to these devices.Nothing else changes.This set up will also allow you easier access to your choke lever as it will no longer be up tight against the firewall either(especially if you have a long choke lever as most of these 25/30cc Homelite weed eaters do).This set up works really well for me.Just my two cents worth!;);)
