Ultra Hots & Ryobi

I have three Ryobi's here just taking up space, two single ring engines and one double ring engine, and an Ultra Hots just about finished.I know it won't set the world on fire but i just might give it a try.Anyone else ever try a Ryobi on an Ultra Hots?

The Ultra Hots was designed around the G38, a Ryobi should work fine..
A G62 up front REALLY works :D

Please post some pics as soon as you get it completed! I'm putting together an Ultra Hots (and possibly a Giant Hots) this winter, and would really like to hear how yours turns out.

I'm tentatively planning on putting a Homey 33 in it, but also have a Homey 45 available, too. Was kinda hoping to use that in the Giant version, tho...

One thing i didn't do before i started this project was to measure the lenth of the Ryobi,,,,DOH!,,hehe,,,,But it looks like it will work out pretty close if you use the two inch motor mount from Pete.If you are building the fuse and use a two inch mount move the firwall back 1/2 an inch,,,course the 3 inch will be 1 1/2 inches. The Fiberglass Specialties cowl works pretty good, watch the flywheel though, that is VERY tight. You will have to cut a new firewall due to the fact of the slope of the nose and build up to the original outline with balsa around the engine to match the cowl.Lot easier to just forget the cowl, build according to the plan, use a two inch mount and you are not that much farther out than the propline of a G-38.Besides the cowls are 35 smakers!!!Also make sure you have enough room for the fuel tank, things are pretty close up front on this plane. There is however a nice size gap in the leading edge of the wing, the back part of the tank has to fit in there. That saves the day.

Oh yeah,,,,,bout painting the cylinder heads,,i used Plastic Kote engine enamel, worked out great.I am going to give Dupli Colors purple anodized engine paint a try on the next Ryobi.I am taking pictures and will post the progress as soon as i can.But one thing ,,,,SHEESH!!!!!,,,,,,,30 bucks for the landing gear for this plane plus shipping? My Ryobi is brand new and i only paid 20 bucks for it.and i got a 2 fer one deal on the planes on Ebay,,,,,two Ultra Hots for 60 bucks,CALL ME CHEAP!!LOL!!!!

Woah RC!,,,,twin fuses and two 45's,,,,,ouchie!! that has got to be an ANIMAL!I wonder what an Ultra would be like with a BME or a ZDZ 50 on the nose,,,,fun i bet!
Anyhoots,,,,,after i am done with this Ulta Hots here is a peak at what i designed for Ryobi and Homelite conversions.Got the plans done,,just gotta plot them on my plotter and get to building it.

I got my l/g for my Ryan's rebel from www. onlinemetals. com for about $17.00 shipped. You have to have access to a big vise to make the bends, but its a no brainer. I used 1" X 3/16". My plane is heavy, probably 16 plus pounds, and this gear is actually a bit stiff. Give them a try. Their stuff was so reasonable, I ordered other metals just to have them around. Good luck with the Hots.

Thanks fwman,I will get some stock from those guys.I have alot of planes on the drawing board to build. If you look at my avatar that Ultimate will be my next two projects after the one i posted above and will need to make custom gear,,,a 60 inch and a 100 inch.I am trying to stay around 35 pounds on the 100 inch,we will see how that goes(Wood gets heavy FAST!hehe)If you wanna fly that Ultimate on your Real Flight G2 it is on the trim schemes page # 5 i do believe. One thing i am glad of,,i will be able to reproduce the flames colors on the real planes. They can be printed out on sign vinyl and cut out on a Roland cutter plotter and laminated. Those plans are done also and can't wait to start those projects to.(To many planes,So little time!!)

I can hardly feel the engine test stand moving while the 445s are running, as smooth as anything I have ever tested....
