Big Pink!

First let me say thanks to CrazyHerb and his great website for giving me the motivation to build this thing. Flew the first two flights today, flies great! I changed a few things from Herbs plans, didn't matter, it still flies like a big old *****cat. There is no 1.5 inch foam in this part of the country so I had to build the wing out of 1 inch. Flat airfoil, you couldn't tell it by watching it fly. A couple of the clubmembers thought it was the coolest thing they had seen in a while and are wanting to build one for themselves. Brand new Ryobi (Bolens actually) plenty of power on a Bambula 18x8. The Extra and Ultimate flyers won't have to worry about me outflying them, but this still is a fun plane to fly.

Ryobi combat anyone?

RIGHT ON FLIP_FLOP!!!
Didn't even know you were building one!!

So, you went with a TOTALLY FLAT wing....awesome...I've been flying .40 sized with a flat wing....you just stepped it up a notch!!!

Glad you like it....
What was your total time into construction?

I love those Bambulas.... 18x8 seems to be perfect on mine here at this altitude (Sacramento area)..

Too cool...I love seeing others enjoy my designs...and seeing that some of my silly alternative material ideas actually accepted within all my internet R/C buddies.

I just posted an extended video of the original big pink on my site hit the link by the pic of it flying (25 meg 10 minutes worth)

I also posted an updated drawing of the 96 inch version...utilizing a couple of tricks I learned from the original and the one I'm building now...(low wing version)

It took me about a month to build, but I imagine that the total time actually working on it was around 6 hours (gotta let that glue dry you know). I glued 1 inch lengths of half inch dowel into the flight surfaces and used Robart hinges. One inch half round for the leading edge, it sure is handy buying all your building materials at Home Depot and Lowes. After the fuselage was built, I sat here and looked at it for a weekend or two, because that fuse just SCREAMS Bi-plane to me. Maybe this winter. I built these wing halves one Saturday during the Big Pink project, haven't decided yet if I'm going to make a big profile plane or something like a big Funtana. Add some spars and balsa sheeting and I'm there. I'm hooked on the foam as a low cost alternative building material.
