SMART PLUG
 

Hey converts do you remember my post on gas engine, glo plug, no ignition, I dont know if anybody has heard of "SMART PLUG" I think this is what we've been waiting for, It fully replaces the electronic ignition by means of a sort of a glow plug, you can check all the info at www.smartplugs.com and see what you guys think of the possibilities

aviation use sure gives it some credibility IMO.

about a year ago a member here had ordered one for use in a marine two-stroke but haven't heard anything since.

Wow, I hope he didn't "sink"! Just kidding.

This is one of those things I've had in my "check it out" favorites on the computer for some time, and never got around to "checking it out". Unfortunately, the site seems to be down for construction right now. It is a very interesting idea however, and worth playing with. I've heard they are testing them as one of the dual ignitions in some ultralight airplane engines. One of the cool things is they are designed to replace spark plugs, so we should be able to buy them, screw them in, and test run (or fly) them with little fuss. Let me know if someone tries this before I get a chance to do so.

the testing is not just in ultralights but "real" airplanes too:D
the plug has to be tailored to the engine too, they used to have a form that you fill out with your engines specs and then wait a month for the plugs to be made.

The website is working but they are not selling retail at the moment.
