Homelite 30CC conversion
 

Hi all. I've pulled a weedwacker apart (HBC-28) and this looks like a good one to chop down. It's got a nice long shaft for the prop too. Anybody out there tried this yet? I'll send pics as I go. Would like to try an electronic ignition system on this puppy too, get rid of the flywheel/coil.

The long shaft engine I have is 3/8" diameter instead of 5/16" like the short shaft ones. The C-H ignition hub will slide over this shaft. I cut some of mine off.

In theory, it is possible to make a shorter engine with the long shaft engine than than a short shaft one. One the short shaft engine, the adapter must be long enough to engage the threads on the engine shaft as well as the threads for the prop retainer bolt or stud.

What is holding that ignition coil on?

The left side (from the front) of the coil mount, I cut the right side off, it wasn't doing anythig. Is only for trial, going to build an electronic ignition system for it. I found a print for one on the net. After I get it cleaned up and reassembled, I'll take some better pics. Finding a way to spin the jug on my mini lathe was a little tricky, as was the flywheel but they turned out pretty good

Ahhh,,,,, that is one of the reasons why I like my SHERLINE. Riser blocks.
I have often wondered about cutting the fins off the head. Isn't that the hottest spot on the engine? Well, except for the exhaust port.

yup,, you bet,, I had to put a riser block in to clear the bed. With the air flow through the fins from the prop wash, the fins can be trimmed down. Be sure not to take too much off though,,they provide added strainght for the cylinder
